ibook G4 with broadcom 4306 rev 3

I have a laptop with the above processor and wirless card.  I use this
as a mobile platform for writing and using R.  I would like to make
sure that I can get my wireless up and running with a bsd before I go
through the process of installing one.  I have debian installed right
now and I am looking to try out a bsd.

I run snapshots on my iBook. I no longer have wireless at home. I used
to use the wireless at work. however, at some point things stopped
working reliably about a year ago. I am not the only one in the
building having problems, other mobile users are also experiencing
problems as well. we are told it has to do with the routers, but i
find it amazing that our IT dept is incapable of addressing this
issue. so this is my disclaimer to having used the airport extreme
card.

keep in mind that none of the suspend/powersave functions work:

$ apm -S
System will enter standby mode momentarily.
$ zzz
Suspending system...

nada ... it does not affect my usage, but it may matter to you if you
are on the road and would like to save your battery power in between
work-sessions, etc.

got an ibook and a powerbook with this broadcom device on OpenBSD
current, it's not very usuable, you can associate with AP, but the
connexion is very slow. Ping commands give a lot of packet loss. You
should rely on another wireless device, or fix the broadcom device
otherwise you're gonna be disapointed. Broadcom is a bad guy anyway.

I need the airport to work and it does under debian, so unfortunately
I will be sticking with linux.  Damn.
