import from Spanish Banks

Hi.
I don't know if this is the right place to make this question. If not, please,
send it to the right recipent. Ah! And excuse me for my poor english.
I live in Spain and work with Deutsche Bank SAE and Caixa Terrassa. I've tried
to import the bank sheets into my kmymoney but I have no success. I've been
searching in www, looking in forums, but i get no answers.
I think there are two methods to make this (correct me if I am wrong). First
of them is an online connect plugin (OFX?) but I think my banks doesn't
support them. The second is importing a file whith the movements. Deutsche Bank
can export in .xls file and Caixa Terrassa in .html table file. So kmymoney
don't import them.
What can I do to solve this? I can send you a file of these Banks if it's
needed. Can you help me?
Thanks,

Jordi Alfonso.

Hello Jordi,
if your bank provides .csv (archivos separados con comas) you could import those using AqBanking, and the kmymoney plugin for aqbanking. Usually, the banks provide .xls files, but they are actually .csv files not real Excel files.
So, if that's your case, you might be able to setup an import profile in aqbanking (to match the format of the file) and import the files into KMM.

I'm sure someone else can provide more information if you need it, because I don't use the import plugins myself.

Regards,
Alvaro

Hi Jordi

Alvaro beat me to it.

If you can get csv files, I've just produced some scripts to convert
bank statements, and investment details, from csv to qif, which can
import to KMyMoney.

Without giving away any financial info., can you show the file layout,
preferably in English as my Spanish neighbour has just gone on holiday!.

Allan

Sorry, Allan, I forgot about your scripts. That would be much faster.

Jordi,
if you have trouble producing them in English, I can help Allan through it, unless they are in Catalan.

I also have a Spanish <-> Gallego dictionary handy, if that bank is from the

Hi again. I've tried to import the two .xls files using Aqbanking import
plugin, but no success. The .xls file from CaixaTerrassa is not recognized. the
.xls file from deutsche bank seems to be imported successfully but nothing was
imported into KMM.
I don't know how to send the layouts with no financial data. I try to open
them, translate to english and change all imports to other numbers, ok?
And... I send the files... at what email?
Thanks.

You can send the files to Allan, and he can help you setup the import using his import scripts.

I CC'ed him explicitly so you have his email.

Hi jordi

Well, that's a mixed bunch!  The first problem is that they're in xls
format, not csv.  I've done a lot of Googling, and have found only an
Excel Add-In that converts data to QIF format, or a non-free converter.
Just loading into an editor doesn't help, without knowing format
codes, etc.  The only other way I can see at the moment is to load into
calc then save as csv.  I've had to modify my script quite a bit, but
I've done that with the Deutsch_bank one, and was able to convert to qif
and import into KMM successfully.

If you're happy-ish with prior converting to csv, then before going on
further, the two banks have quite different formats (of course), so a
few queries/comments.

a) Both have two date columns, but qif allows only one.  Which should I use?
b) Only the actual transactions can be imported.
c) QIF has no field for balance.  Can this be dropped?
d) caixaterrassa has these fields:-
Date   Valor Date   Concept Reference   Amount   Balance
How do you want to see Concept and Reference?  Concatenated/joined into
KMM Details?  Or, one in Details an the other in Memo?  Or, what?  If
concatenated, separated by a space or colon : or what?
e) To avoid the need for two scripts, or added complexity, could you
adopt a common layout/headings for the two files?  Deutsch_bank could
have a blank Reference column added on conversion to csv, perhaps.
f) What character code do you use?  ISO 8859-14?

Hi jordi

Here's the script.  First of all, a couple of cautions.  When converting
to csv in Calc, would you make sure to use ';' (semi-colon) as field
separator.  This is to avoid confusion with the decimal separator.
(Haven't looked at sorting this via KDE Settings, so it's hard-coded
in).  Secondly, your caixaterrassa file includes Euro symbols, which I
delete in the script.    However, While they appear as Euro symbols in
xls in Calc, when I output the csv file from Calc, they're not, they're
either question mark/query, or some other symbol.  I've used that in the
script to delete them, which works OK, but you might need to check your
own csv file and see how it turns out in the qif.

To check the output initially, ensure the script has execute permission,
then run as:-
./csvbankingqif-ES.py < yourinputfile.csv > youroutputfile.qif

If the csv and the qif files look OK, then go into KMM and set up a qif
profile - Tools/QIF Profile Editor, click on New, enter a profile name -
csvbank, or whatever, then select that profile on the left.  Then click
the Filter tab.  Enter the script name in the Input Filter Location, and
make the file type *.csv.  Then click OK.  Now, File/Import/QIF, browse
to and select your csv file, then select your new qif profile, and click
Import.

All being well, your transactions should appear in whatever account you
select!.

Let's know how you get on.

Allan

Hi Jordi

On your screen-shot first, you've entered
./csvbankingqif-ES.py yourinputfile.csv  youroutputfile.qif , but you've
missed out the re-direction symbols.  It should have been
./csvbankingqif-ES.py < yourinputfile.csv  > youroutputfile.qif as shown
above.

With db, I don't understand that.  On my Kubuntu PC, I clicked the xls
file, it asked if I wanted to open with Open Office spreadsheet, which I
did and it opened as expected.  I was then able to export to csv and
convert to qif.

I was also able to use gnumeric instead of OOO.  That exported to csv
too, although if you use that, you'll need to adjust the date format as
my script needs dd/mm/yy not yy/mm/dd.

Just curiosity: How is it that you have a galician lang dictionary?

I have some family in Vigo.  Last time I was there I saw that La Xunta was
trying to push the teaching of the language, so I picked up a couple of books
to help me learn a little.

Hi Jordi

Great!  We're there then.  I've just looked at gnumeric and there is
another option.  Save as Text (configurable) allows you to specify
numerous settings, including the separator.  We live and learn.

Glad I was able to do my bit to help.

Hi jordi

That's a relief!  Don't change banks for a while, though.

Whenever I complain about my bank, I have friends who tell me how easy
it is to change banks.  Now I have a real example proving it is NOT
always so easy!  (I knew it myself, but this shows a potential problem
that is probably not immediately obvious.)

To me, statement download is now an important factor.  That's why I'm on
my third bank in one year!

Bank 1 Good service but QIF.
Bank 2 OFX, but they dropped it for CSV.
Bank 3 Back to OFX, all being well.
