I'm curious.

I'm sure there are as many responses to this question as there are
people on this forum.

What is your preferred ink jet paper and why.

I'm in the mood to play with new paper and want to get some ideas as
to what folks like.

Thanks.

These days I'm sticking mostly to the Epson products (matching my
printer).  I use the top-line glossy and matte surfaces.

Lea,

I've been using Staples, Photo Supreme, heavy weight, double-sided.  It
is excellent and comparable to the much more expensive stuff. I am told
it is the same as Kodak's best. I have personally compared Staples PS
matte with Hahnamule and Museo. Not enough difference for me to spend
the extra $$$.  Best yet, Staples, has twice in recent months, had it at
$1.00 w/rebate for a 50 sheet box of 8-1/2 x 11!!

I also use Red River Aurora and Ultra Pro. - also comparable to the more
costly stuff.

I use an Epson 2200 and HP B9180 and my pals use the Epson 3800 with
these products.

I have QTR for my 2200 printer driver to get great B/W. The Epson 3800
seems to do well with it's own B/W driver.

nothing comes close to this for a full gloss, ilfochrome/ilfoflex-like
print.  The only problem is to take full advantage you need a good dye ink
printer, the pigment inks aren't worth using on this.

Saying this often leads to discussions on professionalism (whatever that
means) and print longevity - my take is that if the choice is: the print
only lasts 10-25 years but looks fantastic V the print lasts 1000 years but
looks mediocre, I'd go for the short lived fantastic looking print.  I'd
also *maybe* do a long-life print as well, but i'd weigh up whether it is
ever likely to be of any great historical significance ;)

I read somewhere a while back that Epson printers are going to use less ink with Epson papers.  I think it was the way the coating was designed to absorb ink for their particular products.  Though I never put an actual test together, it seem to have some merit based on just general observations.  Still if I found a paper I liked, I wouldn't let brand stop me either.

I do not print my images any more. I use my PC to display them. I'm
considering buying a display unit where you plug in a card with the images
loaded as files and the unit displays them one at a time.

That way I can display hundreds of images in the same wall space.
