after i tar xvzf gama-1.10.tar.gz and change directory,try to install as follow
cat@7rack:~/survey&mapping/gama/gama-1.10$ ls
aclocal.m4   config.h.in   COPYING   gama-g3     Makefile.am  scripts
AUTHORS      config.log    doc       gama-local  Makefile.in  TODO
ChangeLog    configure     Doxyfile  INSTALL     NEWS         xml
ChangeLog.1  configure.ac  gama.dox  lib         README
cat@7rack:~/survey&mapping/gama/gama-1.10$ ./configure
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... configure: error: unsafe absolute working directory name
i guess maybe the directory problem,so i tar to another directory,install successful:)and my kernel is
cat@7rack:~/survey&mapping/gama/gama-1.10$ uname -a
Linux 7rack 2.6.35-22-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 20:36:48 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
