install problem

error 1303 insufficient privileges to continue installing ...basic\program\shlxthdl
must have admin privs.

I do believe I am installed as admin. I own the machine. I built it. I install XP on it. I am the only user installed on my machine.

I tried to update from ver 3. Now that is wiped out by the install process and I have nothing. Please advise. Robert Lacy

Since you're running Windows XP, Robert, you might find this thread from the
