I do agree with the sentiment others have expressed, you don't normally delete tracking items. But JTrac does support deleting of items: if you are logged in as an admin, you should see a [Delete] button to the top right of an issue once you click on the [Edit] link.

I'm not 100% sure if this is available in the 2.1.0 version though, so can you confirm ?

The problem here is, that we've learned from years of experience
that it's a Bad Idea. Your users are no different to other users
who have gone before. It's just the wrong thing to do. So don't
do it.

Nope. If you make a mistake, make a note of it and close the
report. That's life in the fast lane.

All that having been said, there is a case to be made for being
able to export a portion of the database, excluding any
arbitrary subset of records, which makes it possible to weed out
old records. But note that this means you still have the old
database, and that it hasn't been modified. You're creating a
new one with fewer records. Much more time-consuming and
cumbersome than simply clicking a button to delete a record,
which is just as it should be.

I agree with you, and sure people does malicious use of delete, but I think is not a good idea not give people a chance and take it at their own risk. Users must decide themselves and be responsible of their actions, then they can learn from their mistakes.

A delete button could be configurable as optional fields or state change are, and let the admin decide if he gives the users that power and what constraints apply (which roles can use it).

JTrac experience + development changes

I've been using JTrack on a large project. After 3 weeks, we have now logged over a 1000 issues. I've also added some changes after some suggestions from users to further improve JTrack. I've added the following changes:

added the possibility for issue owners to "edit" their issue, using the same functionality as available for admin users. The owner is defined as the user who has raised the issue. This helped correct omissions when entering issues.
increased area of custom "free text" fields to 3 lines and equivalent length as the Remarks field. We have several text fields that contain pieces of text which was very akward to use with small default fields.
populated custom fields with their current values when viewing issues (users were actually overwriting field values because they thought values would be appended rather than replaced)
added search capability on Last Changed date (from History table) and show field in Search results.
added search capability on Related Items and show field in Search results.

I also had to change some "development issues", mainly based on some great tips using the forums and maillists:

changed the pom.xml so it could find all libraries
added some missing labels in the Dutch translations, which caused the Excel import to crash

If anyone is interested in these changes, please leet me know. If some of these changes could in integrated into JTrack 2.2, that would be great.

Particularly, now I can set up in jtrac.properties a user and a password of the LDAP directory with read permissions (for searching users on that directories where anonymous authentication is not allowed), and the attribute by which the search is done (for example, uid or cn).

Create user patch

For creating new users in LDAP I used a bit of "street magic" ;)
I hope that at least one user already exists in LDAP - admin. I takes admin's attributes and copy it to newly created user. Change userPassword, cn, mail and uid attributes. Bind my changes.
Keep this in mind if your admin-user contains some secret data.

Two additional properties need to be added to jtrac.properties:
>> ldap.superUserDN=cn=admin,dc=my,dc=domain,dc=com
>> ldap.superUserPassword=secret

If there is no such properties - create feature will be disabled. And more, users will can change only their's own password (and admin too!).

Tested only against OpenLDAP (Debian 5 and 4)

I'm also accept some other LDAP-related feature requests.

Encoding problem with attachments upload/download

Hi all! New patch - encoding problems
Encoding problem. When you upload file with UTF name to JTrac or try to download an UTF-named attachment you browser try to save a file with incorrect (unreadable) name. To prevent such a case we must rightly encoding file name, that set up in response header.

I use http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2231 standard for non-IE browser and simple "percent encoding" for IE.

Tested on IE-7.0.5730.13 Opera-9.64 and FF-3.0.10 with English/Russian file names.

PS: Also I had fixed the problem with mime-type:

If you could add an initial patch on SF we could perhaps have a more
useful discussion :-)

Also, I'm not interested in it only for the trunk but also for

Let's wait Peter. May be Peter dosen't approve to change JTrac interface and JTracImpl. But I'm need to add a setter in JTrac to setup a link to AuthProvider used in system. That allow us to use "hard" setup (in applicationContext-acegi.xml) of AuthProvider as like as "properties" setup. And more. In our company we used JTrac with an LDAP Authentication for a years. In addition we use the same LDAP for SVN users. Sometimes users in JTrac try to change password and was surprised as it's not result in LDAP (and isn't change SVN password too).
To prevent such a case we patch JTrac in order to update users info and password in LDAP when someone change password in JTrac.

Is anybody interesting in such a patch? It allows to use JTrac as a simple LDAP manager. IMHO the best choice for a small company.

PS: I can prepare clear code by the end of may. It's needed to patch JTrac, JTracImpl, ProviderManagerFactoryBean and JtracLdapAuthenticationProvider (and applicationContext-acegi.xml of course). Also it's need to change JtracConfigurer - to specify SuperUser DN/password for create new users in LDAP.

Value smtp_from_name lost in the trac.ini

In two of my trac, i've noticed the value "name" in the section [project] has strangely took the place of the "smtp_from_name". So when i recieve an e-mail notification, the "From" field contains the name of the project instead of "smtp_name_from".
Nothing answer from google.

Ah, actually its my mistake that I did not explain it properly, so I
am trying it again. What you have point out is perfectly ok. Now lets
suppose that there is a user called "some_user" who has 2 roles
"DEFAULT" & "TEST". Now there are 2 issues -

1. When I try to assign a issue to a user I can see "some_user" twice,
I assume that its because of their roles but the assigned list does
not show the roles so its practically impossible to know which
"some_user" represents which role.

2. As a result of (1) when "some_user" selects next state to be
"Closed" it still shows the fields as specified for "Open" for the
default user; but if user "test" whose role is "TEST" logs in he can
see the "Closed" fields as specified.

What I actually want to achieve is if "some_user" selects next state
to be "Closed" the fields displayed should be that of "Closed" and not
of "Open" and vice versa when "Open" is selected.

BTW, I am sorry for the inconvenience in the image in the last line, I
was actually focusing of state change from Open to Closed by user who
has both TEST and DEFAULT role.

If I understand what you are asking, it looks like your problem is in the last line of your table, where you allow the Default user to change the status from Closed to Open.

Your field level permission is set to M (Mandatory) for the Fix Version field. If you want them to be able to change it, but not be required to, it should be O (Optional).

If you don't want it changed at all when going from Closed to Open, it should be R (Read only).

This says that your Tester is not allowed to change the status once it is Closed. Is that what you want?

I am a user of JTrac and I seem to like it :), but I am stuck with a
workflow situation and am wondering how to go about solving it. I have
added the work-flow in he attachment. Now when designing this
work-flow what I had in mind is that, when state is changed from Open
to Closed, the Fix Version have to be mentioned. But what I can see in
practice is - Once the state is in closed if then I want to change the
state it asks me to mention the Fix Version; its exactly the opposite
to what I wanted :(. Can some please suggest me how I can achieve what
I want achieve?

I can confirm that this is stable and there are no DB schema changes from 2.1.0, actually we should be releasing 2.2.0 final right away with almost the same code base. This version does fix some memory issues in the indexing when the number of records goes beyond a point. I think you have been using JTrac for a while too :)
