I always liked something like that, but I think we need some additional
refactoring.

Those methods could be part of probably another interface and another
package that eventually could be extended by ISOChannel (something like
org.jpos.channel.Channel). We may also need an org.jpos.msg.Msg to wrap
those bytes. We can move most of the functionality of the existing
ISOChannel up one level.

That said, best is enemy of good, if you need those changes now, you can add
them and then we can refactor them.

Hello everyone, seniors and juniors alike :)

First, a brief intro on the situation. I'm creating a jPOS switch
between a EDC Terminal and the backend Host.
EDC Terminal runs a proprietary message type, the jPOS switch's task
is to translate it to ISO8583 and send it to the Host.
EDC Terminal connects via a RS232 cable to the switches' serial port,
hence my question.

Question is, where should I put the serial comm logic?
Please ignore the proprietary EDC message (a custom jPOS packager and
app logic will take care of it).

I'm looking at creating a new SerialPortChannel, extending from
BaseChannel itself.
The serial comms will be using the RxTx library; with this as an
example:-
http://www.captain.at/howto-java-serial-port-javax-comm-rxtx.php

Any comments on this approach?

p.s: did some homework, dug up this thread on serial ports + jPOS:-
http://osdir.com/ml/java.jpos.devel/2008-02/msg00015.html

Thank you for everyone's time, greatly appreciate it :)
Best regards,
Adrian

Perhaps if you have a sample message you could show from your setup or

> No , jpos cannot process it.

Ok, so we have an answer.

> It is internal message . If you want to use , you ask for specification and
> mapping in jpos

"Silver Lake" provide a translation (to ISO8583) interface?

> I also want to handele it but SVL doen't give us specification . Do you have
> it ? If you have , i can help

Please take care...

If "Siver Lake" don't always share the specification, there is likely a
good reason and protection in place.

Didik, could probably not legally share the detail with anyone Vu.

> >> You can add a logger to the packager to see what bytes are going into
> >> the various fields, if you have already check that your packager matches
> >> the interface structure.
>
> > How can I add a logger to my packager?
>
> Perhaps "give your packager a logger" is a better way to describe it?
>
>    Logger logger = new Logger();
> >> The the packager is taking the wrong piece of message bytes as the
>
> > How can I correct this misalignment?
>
> Make sure the packager you are using completely matches the interface
> you are asking it to deal with.
>
> > Meanwhile, I did configure my packager to match the Interface
> > structure.
> And?
> The earlier solution worked fine but now when I am
> trying to integrate with another bank switch I am doing everything
> fine. the message is something like this...
>
> 30383030383232303030303030383030303030303034303030303030303030303030303031313235303930323435303339383431313132353039303234353034303031
>
> Which is fine for the bank.
So they like your message content, but not the length format.

> Here the message length in decimal is 67.
> As I am using ASCIIChannel, the message length is going as 0067.
c'0067'?

> But
> they are asking me to send the message length of (0067) base 10 as
> (0043) base 16.
Still in character == c'0043'?

> Or message length could be sent as 3637.
This is the binary form of ascii c'67'.

So this bank can accept two length formats and you can choose? :-

1) a 4 byte ascii character length of the base 16 length - c'0043'
2) a 2 byte ascii character length of the base 10 length - c'67'

> I tried all
> channels but could not able to identify which one i have to use. Could
> you please suggest me on this?

I don't think either of these formats are available out of the box.

For either format, two simple modifications (copy into a new file first)
to the getMessageLength and sendMessageLength(int) methods in
ASCIIChannel.java should give you a Channel implementation that will
work for this bank.

Have a look at the ASCIIChannel.java source...
... if you can't work out what to modify then ask back here?

Please make sure you have both length formats clear in your mind - I
would like you to be sure that the 2 formats I numbered above accuratly
represent what you have told us?

This is Sri again. The earlier solution worked fine but now when I am
trying to integrate with another bank switch I am doing everything
fine. the message is something like this...

30383030383232303030303030383030303030303034303030303030303030303030303031313235303930323435303339383431313132353039303234353034303031

Which is fine for the bank. Here the message length in decimal is 67.
As I am using ASCIIChannel, the message length is going as 0067. But
they are asking me to send the message length of (0067) base 10 as
(0043) base 16. Or message length could be sent as 3637. I tried all
channels but could not able to identify which one i have to use. Could
you please suggest me on this? Or am i going in wrong direction?
    }
I also use this to do the hexdump for the msg;
System.out.println(ISOUtil.hexdump(isomsg.pack()));

How else can I be able to print out or dump the incoming message,
before it gets to
the point where the iso-exceptions are thrown?
> > I have some issue regarding JPOS iso exceptions, many times when you
> > get a problem on unpacking fields,
> > the logs usually report a different field instead of the actual field
> > that has the problem.
>
> The exception will be thrown at the time a problem is noticed, most
> often on finding a length that is too big for the field, finding a
> length that exceeds the remaining message bytes or running off the end
> trying to process a field that is not present.
>
> > Foreinstance, I have this piece of stack trace, where the system
> > reports a problem while unpacking Field 20,
> > but when you analyse the BITMAP, you realise that field 20 actually
> > doesn't exist.
>
> The the packager is taking the wrong piece of message bytes as the
> bitmap - you have a misalignment between your packager and the message.
> Perhaps what you 'see' as the bitmap is not what you have told jPos is
> the bitmap.
>
> Perhaps also confirm that this failing message is not malformed in some
> way, it *might* be the sending system that has a problem?
>

But once again, you'd do yourself a favor if you consider using Q2.

This document can help: http://jpos.org/doc/jPOS-Project-Guide.pdf

You can add a logger to the packager to see what bytes are going into
the various fields, if you have already check that your packager matches
the interface structure.
