jUDDI DataSource Validation problem

Hi,

I'm trying to get jUDDI running on our Tomcat application server (Tomcat
5.5.17) with "mysql-standard-5.0.22-linux-i686" (both running on Linux
redhat 3). I've followed the README instructions that came with the
jUDDI package for creating the tables for MySql, then I followed the
instructions from the following link to deploy jUDDI on the Tomcat server:

http://wiki.apache.org/ws/Deploy_jUDDI_on_Tomcat_and_MySQL

I can go through the command line interface and access MySql databases
and query the PUBLISHER table and it does output the entries that I have
manually put in there but I can't seem to access MySql via Tomcat.

When I access the happyjuddi link below (we're using SSL), I get the
following error/output (see below). The red text is what I'm trying to
solve:

- DB connection was not aquired. (Cannot create JDBC driver of class ''
for connect URL 'null')
- SELECT COUNT(*) FROM PUBLISHER failed (null)

https://localhost:8443/juddi/happyjuddi.jsp

I have the "mysql-connector-java-3.1.13-bin.jar" file residing under the
$TOMCAT_HOME/common/lib directory.

Thank you in advance for your help - Alan

Re: jUDDI DataSource Validation problem

by avinh :: Rate this Message:

I checked the WEB-INF/juddi-users.xml file and confirmed that the userid and password in that file matches the ones in the conf/server.xml file too.

Can someone please give me a clue as to what's wrong? I've read various posts and tried/checked everything that was mentioned but Tomcat doesn't seem to want to connect to MySql - I am getting the following errors from the happyjuddi.jsp page:

jUDDI DataSource Validation
+ Got a JNDI Context!
+ Got a JDBC DataSource (dsname=java:comp/env/jdbc/juddiDB)
- DB connection was not aquired. (Cannot create JDBC driver of class '' for connect URL 'null')
- SELECT COUNT(*) FROM PUBLISHER failed (null)

Why is the class empty and the URL null in the "DB connection" error above? Where is it looking?

Using the command line, I can get into MySql and do the query "SELECT COUNT(*) FROM PUBLISHER" and the correct count does come back as expected so I believe MySql is working.

A little help please?

Thanks - Alan

Re: jUDDI DataSource Validation problem

It seems that the instructions for "configuring jUDDI for Tomcat" from the following link does not work well with Tomcat 5.5.17, i.e. the section for setting up the conf/server.xml file:

http://wiki.apache.org/ws/Deploy_jUDDI_on_Tomcat_and_MySQL

This is the final entry that I have for the Context in file conf/server.xml that works for me:

<!-- ***************************************************************** -->

        <Context path="/juddi" docBase="juddi" debug="5" reloadable="true"
          crossContext="true">
          <Logger className="org.apache.catalina.logger.FileLogger"
                       prefix="localhost_juddiDB_log" suffix=".txt"
                       timestamp="true"/>

          <Resource name="jdbc/juddiDB" auth="Container" type="javax.sql.DataSource"
             maxActive="0" maxIdle="50" maxWait="10000"
             username="juddi" password="juddi" driverClassName="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"
             url="jdbc:mysql://seurat.cbt.nist.gov:3306/juddi?autoReconnect=true"/>

        </Context>

<!-- ***************************************************************** -->

Notice that I'm not using "localhost" for the url attribute but the actual domain name for my server (seurat.cbt.nist.gov), this is intended so that MySql can be running on another server instead of the localhost.

I had to run the following sql statement in order for MySql to allow user "juddi" to have access to my server (seurat.cbt.nist.gov):

GRANT ALL ON juddi.* TO juddi@"seurat.cbt.nist.gov" IDENTIFIED BY "juddi";

For some reason the default command that came with the file "create_database.sql", i.e. the following statement allowing the "juddi" user to access MySql from anywhere does not work, hence I had to specified the machine explicitly:

GRANT ALL ON juddi.* TO juddi@"%" IDENTIFIED BY "juddi";

Now the "happyjuddi.jsp" file is running with the following results:

jUDDI DataSource Validation
+ Got a JNDI Context!
+ Got a JDBC DataSource (dsname=java:comp/env/jdbc/juddiDB)
+ Got a JDBC Connection!
+ SELECT COUNT(*) FROM PUBLISHER = 2

Hi,

We are facing the same problem ,if you get any information regarding the error please let us know.we didn't make any modification in user.xml and server.xml page.Do we need to make any changes in those files.

I had the same problem before. Then I installed admin package for Tomcat, and logged on Tomcat using the Admin console. From there, I could create easily the Datasource using that console. Once that setup was done, juddi worked well.
Hope that helps.
