Hi,

Because there were a lot of changes since RC2 in branches/KDE/4.3, the KDE
release team has agreed on inserting a RC3 into the schedule, which will be
done today.

The final KDE 4.3 deadlines etc all slip by one week, so the tagging for 4.3 is
planned to happen at July 28th.

[KDE-i18n-nl] [Kde-cvs-announce] KDE 4.3 has been branched for KDE 4.3 RC1

Hi,

As previously scheduled, I've just branched trunk/KDE to branches/KDE/4.3,
which we will use for creating KDE 4.3 RC1 later today.

Any commit after svn r986142 (I love the 42) will have to be svn merged into
branches/KDE/4.3 if it should be part of KDE 4.3.0.

Please note that stabilisation and other important fixes should be backported
to this branch to ensure that we ship a really good KDE 4.3 release.

trunk/KDE is open for KDE 4.4 development now.

Hi,

just to let everyone know of the progress:

Today, at 23:59 UTC, KDE 4.1.4 will be tagged from branches/KDE/4.1. Please
make sure that your changes that you want to be part of this release are
backported into that branch. The same list of languages like with KDE 4.1.3
will be included in the localisation.

Tomorrow around noon, UTC, I'll branch KDE 4.2 from /trunk into
/branches/KDE/4.2. Seperate announcement will follow on kde-core-
devel@....

KDE 4.2 RC1 will be created from branches/KDE/4.2 tomorrow around 23:59 UTC.
Language list is taken from /trunk/kde-common/release/language_list

Hi,

This is a reminder message that we plan to tag KDE 4.1.2 tomorrow, on
September 24th, 23:59 UTC.

We're planning to create the tag from /branches/KDE/4.1 and it will include
everything that was committed until that point. You should make sure that your
tested (!) backports of bugfixes are committed until then.

Please mention important fixes in the KDE 4.1 changelog:

/trunk/www/sites/www/announcements/changelogs/changelog_branch_4_1.xml

Please tag bugreports on http://bugs.kde.org/ that must be fixed before KDE
4.1.2 with the "kde-4.1.2-blocker" keyword.

Please keep release-team@... informed in case you know about ship
stoppers.

Hi!

After a lot of confusion for many translators I renamed trunk/l10n to
trunk/l10n-kde3 after discussion on kde-i18n-doc@....

So if you have it checked out:
you can use svn info l10n to get the url and then
svn switch <URL+-kde3> l10n

If you're still confused, let me rehash what I wrote on kde-i18n-doc:

There used to be only 2 branches:
branches/stable/l10n for release things including latest KDE major release
(currently KDE 3.5) and extragear applications
trunk/l10n for basically everything else including KDE trunk, extragear
trunk, kdereview, kdenonbeta, playground, etc.

As KDE4 uses different build system and different gettext format and tools,
we had to split it up and created trunk/l10n-kde4 and over the time a lot of
confusion happened what's translated where - as trunk/l10n got a new meaning.

This I tried to take care of renaming the branch. Now we have
branches/stable/l10n - nothing changed there as we have no stable KDE4
atm. Hopefully by the time KDE4 turns stable, there are no more KDE3
releases (knock on wood)
trunk/l10n-kde3 - everything in development for KDE3, mostly extragear apps,
some unmaintained things from nonbeta and various things from playground
trunk/l10n-kde4 - everything in development for KDE4

One a related topic: The position of l10n coordinator is still up for grabs.
Translators will buy you drinks at fairs and can find a nice place to sleep
at friends in almost any corner of the world! And all you have to do for it
is watch out of developers doing weird things and explain it
to translators. Oh, and some rewarding administrative things - we would even
put your name behind scripty's account name - which would make you the
top committer for the KDE project. Still not interested? Dumbass! Someone
else will do it and you'll still be you.

Hi!

It is about time, we do the next step on the KDE 3.5 series:
releasing KDE 3.5.7.

I put the following dates into the 3.5 Release Schedule:

April 16th: Message and documentation freeze
April 30th: Tagging
Mai 8th: Expected release date

Please note that KDE 3.5 branch is already frozen while exceptions are granted
more easily than with older KDE 3 releases, so the time between freeze and
tagging should see some testing by everyone who is able to do so.

Hi!

I was awaiting the opening of the KDE4 translation branch (as this was done
from stable branch I didn't want a mixture). As this happened, I'd like to
open the KDE 3.5 branch again (it doesn't have a deadline yet, I'll announce
the deadline early).

Let me quote my mail for those new to KDE:

The requirements for a new feature to get in KDE3.5.x are:

- it needs to be already in trunk - we already have lot of code that went only
into KDE3.5.x and not trunk, no need to make this even worse

- it needs to be complete and ready - don't ask "I plan to develop this
feature for 3.5.x, will it get in?"

- it needs to be well-tested - create a branch or a patch and have it tested
by other people, or even make independent public releases (kde-apps.org, in
some distribution packages, whatever)

- it needs to respect other freezes - if no new i18n messages are allowed, no
feature changing those is allowed either

- it needs to be committed no later than a month before the next release is
tagged

- it must be mentioned in the changelog of the release (marked with "New:")

- commit log must include "approved by ..." and don't forget the FEATURE: tag
where applicable

- last and the most important: It must be posted to the mailing list for the
SVN module (kde-core-devel for those without) and must be approved by the
module's maintainer (TWG for those without)

For the GUI strings (also known as messages), you can fix typos and make
small changes to them. You can also add new error messages to improve error
feedback to users. (Adding other kinds of messages are not allowed. In case
of questions or doubts, please ask the kde-i18n-doc@... mailing list.)

For the documentation, the changes should also be rather small, except when
fixing inaccurate or outdated documentation. You can also port documentation
that has been prepared in the trunk/KDE modules. (If you change any
documentation for the KDE 3.5 branch, please be sure that the change is also
in the corresponding module of trunk/KDE. However you can do a little later,
in case that you would not have much time during the lift period.)

After getting positive feedback on the last freeze lifts, I decided to lift
partially the message, documentation and feature freeze for the KDE 3.5
branch (modules in branches/KDE/3.5 ).

The period of the lift will be until 18th of September 2006 (00:00 UTC).

For the GUI strings (also known as messages), you can fix typos and make
small changes to them. You can also add new error messages to improve error
feedback to users. (Adding other kinds of messages are not allowed. In case
of questions or doubts, please ask the kde-i18n-doc@... mailing list.)

For the documentation, the changes should also be rather small, except when
fixing inaccurate or outdated documentation. You can also port documentation
that has been prepared in the trunk/KDE modules. (If you change any
documentation for the KDE 3.5 branch, please be sure that the change is also
in the corresponding module of trunk/KDE. However you can do a little later,
in case that you would not have much time during the lift period.)

In addition to that, the feature freeze as announced in [1] reapply to 3.5
branch during that period.

Hi!

After some discussion on the translators mailing list without too much
attention I decided (and seen no objections) that we will lift the message
freeze for the KDE 3.5 branch till december 29th.

This does not mean, you can commit new GUI strings to your own liking,
but typo fixes and minor changes are allowed (if in doubt, contact
kde-i18n-doc@... with the changes you want to do).

We will also remove the docu freeze for KDE 3.5 for this time frame with
the intention to give unfrozen documentation for stable releases a try.
Depending on the outcome of this little experiment, we might have more
defined message freeze outages in the future.

As I hoped to get some vacation time over the holidays, the 3.5.1 release is

closer to new year. The later the date the more packares are available too I
guess.

[KDE-i18n-nl] KDE 3.5.0 RC2

Hi!

I spent the weekend reviewing commits to the 3.5 branch
and tagged most of them as included in KDE 3.5.0. So now
I prepared a RC2 and plan to announce that as final as soon
as I have enough binaries.

So this means, I will only halt that for really grave problems
(put me on CC on bugzilla entries - don't send me private lists
of show stoppers). So far all feedback I got was that KDE 3.5
is rock solid.

A note to the translators: RC2 contains the same translations
as RC1, beside the tarball of sv, rw and km, where I did mistakes
with RC1. And for those that do not read kde-i18n-doc: KDE 3.5
is from now translated in /branches/stable/l10n
