No, you can't commit them neither to branch (frozen for ever) nor to trunk,
which is frozen until 4.4.0 (around February 9th).

I'd suggest you add a dir like documentation-kdepim to branches/work/ on the
svn server.
Then copy the original docs from trunk (or branch for kaddressbook) for every
application you want to work with.
There we all together can easily review and discuss your work.

Please cc this list in the commit log, when you create your working dir.

writing docs. for kdepim

Hi all,
Thanks for giving me an opportunity to help out. As suggested
by others in this team, I'll be updating/writing documentation for
kdepim now :D. I'll check out the kdepim module, make the changes,
then discuss them and push them back to the branch. I just wanted to
inform you guys so we don't have a lot of people working on the same
thing. There is one question that I have: Are there any time restrains
to when the documentation should be ready? I know that there are
separate parts to kdepim so I am thinking that I'll get done all of
them by the end of this year. How does that sound :D

As a newbie user of Kubuntu, I am, to say the least, Frustrated.

I have 'jiggered' my Taskbar so have opened your Manual to "The Taskbar" and it is not even a decent description of the bloody thing, let alone how to fix it!

Hallo,
ich habe mich bei kmail registriert und nach langem Suchen auch den
Zugang für Aus- und Eingang gefunden. Ich glaube aber nicht das ich das
alles richtig gemacht habe, da ich mir selbst zu anderen Accounts von mir
eine eMail geschickt habe, die jedoch nie angekommen sind. Umgekehrt
genauso. Warum ???

Jetzt versuche ich mich etwas mit dem Gesamtsystem KDE und Dank
einer deutschen Anleitung unter openSUSE auseinander zusetzen. Hierbei
habe ich festgestellt, das ich die Konquerer-Anleitung nicht über die "Hilfe"
aufrufen kann. Diese lässt sich nur über die Adressleisteneingabe aufrufen
mit: help:/konqueror

Zur Info:
Ich habe bei mir in der VirtualBox von Sun diverse Open Surce installiert,
um mir diese etwas intensiver anzuschauen, um mir selbst Alternativen zu
Windows zu eröffnen. Hierbei habe ich auch festgestellt, dass bei Ubuntu in
der GNOM Version es überhaupt kein Problem ist mit Hilfe vom "Wine-
Emulator" bekannte Windows-Programme wie den VLC-Player, Teamviewer
oder andere in Ubuntu-GNOM einzubinden. In KDE habe ich zwar auch
irgendwo "Wine" vorhanden, welches sich aber zum emulieren/installieren
von exe-Software leider nicht aufrufen lässt.

Was mir bei openSUSE-KDE sehr gut gefällt ist, dass man auch nach der
Installation des Betriebssystems den eigenen 22"-Monitor noch etwas von
der Bildschirmauflösung her konfigurieren kann, welches bei allen anderen
Betriebssystemen, zumindest in der VirtualBox, leider nicht möglich und
mit einer maximalen von 800 x 600 sehr begrenzt ist.

Da ich nun nicht weiß, ob diese eMail von hier aus (kmail) auch ankommt,
so werde ich diese noch einmal von einem anderen Account aus schicken.

Abschließend noch eine Anmerkung: Ich habe versucht mich zu
registrieren, aber auch das ist irgendwie anscheinend gescheitert.

Als alter MS-User angefangen von 98 über XP und Vista jetzt bei W7
angelangt, bin ich insgesamt sehr erfreut über die ganzen Fortschritte bei
GNOM und vor allem bei KDE. Viel Erfolg und weiter so !!!

I propose something like a TODO list divided into sections so its
easier to target on what to cleanup. I know that could be a pain since
all of your guys are very busy, but it would really help documentation
writers (like me :D )

Hello and welcome Vikram. I'm sure the Doc_English people will
greatly appreciate someone with DocBook and general documentation
experience. :)

Regarding your command, in kdegames I used to check out items
utilizing something similar to the line below (in this example, I
would specifically checkout the documentation for alpha-build kde
games):

svn co svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/trunk/playground/games/doc/

[don't take my word for it, as I don't have SVN access myself]
And to find my way around, I would either use Dolphin or I'd used the
WebSVN to visually navigate around Trunk and so forth:

http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/

As to what you can edit and where to edit it, I'd wait for someone in
Doc_English to get back to you, as there are set rules to follow based
on the KDE release cycle and internationalization. I could always use
someone to take over my abandoned pet project (for the deprecated KDE
User Guide), but I think your skills would be better served in more
priority tasks. :)

new member introduction

Hi all,
How are you guys? I am a new member to this project but I
have been writing a lot of documentation for different projects such
as Ubuntu, GNOME, Firefox and Launchpad and since most of these
projects use docbook, I have learned a lot about docbook by now :D.

I would like to get started with KDE docs., what are some of the
things that I can help out with. I do have svn access to KDE (I am
responsible :D ) but I have been struggling a little with what modules
to download from the trunk to get started with documentation. I would
really appreciate if someone can tell me the command for that, I know
that it should be something along the lines of:
svn+ssh://username@.../home/kde. Thanks all I really
appreciate your help in this case.

No documentation in 4.4 and waiting until 4.5 really isn't an option.

1) Remove all obsolete/outdated/confusing stuff from the current documentation
until the first week of January, the result of this should then go into 4.4.0

2) Update the documention then until the release of 4.4.0 (February 9th), this
updated doc should go into 4.4.1

Don't struggle with docbook markup, feel free to use any format you like. If
you need any help with writing mail to kde-doc-english or drop me a note.

Don't worry about string freeze , I'll handle that as usual with kde-i18n-doc.

A friendly reminder to all devels:
Writing an excellent application is not suficcient, we have to enable our users
to use them by providing ToolTips, QuickHelp, WhatsThisText and documentation.

So please check these issues for your application and send doc updates to kde-
doc-english.

KPackage was recently removed from KDE SC (since 4.4 beta2) as it was
completely broken and unmaintained.

Most of the common GNU/Linux distributions offer their own tools to deal with
packages, and KDE is working on an universal package manager replacement named
"Shaman" (to superseed KPackageKit)

Closing the KPackage's bug reports as UNMAINTAINED.

kttsd documentation

Hello,

Burkhard Luck (sorry for the missing umlaut) pointed out to me that kttsd is very deprecated at the moment. I have made a lot of changes for the 4.4 release to the ui and underlying functionality also, but did not get to the docbook. It's very very bad, it mentions dcop in a number of places, mentions a lot of things that simply aren't there in kttsd any more (gstreamer output, plugins for synthesizers, etc. etc. etc.) I realize we are in string freeze at the moment, and suggest either:
1) allow me to remove most/all of the documentation for the 4.4 release
2) #comment the documentation so it will not be installed for the 4.4 release because it has many things in it that will just confuse an end user

In either case I'll work on cleaning it up for the 4.5 KDE SC.

Anyway, let me know how I should proceed. I'm not on this list, so don't forget to cc me in replies.

Hallo,

we have a lot of obsolete documentation from kde3 in our documentation and
should clean up there.

Let me start with kdebase/runtime/doc/kcontrol/:
panel, panelappearance, email, passwords, crypto, kcmtaskbar, background,
desktopbehaviour.

Afaik none of these docs is accessible via a help button (plasma doesn't
support this) or seems to be outdated and useless.

Any comments?

Völlig falsche Anlaufstelle hier ...

Diese Liste hier ist englischsprachig und für die Leute die Dokumentationen
schreiben, Hilfe gibt es woanderst ...

Aber probier doch mal nen Rechtsklick auf die Arbeitsfläche zu machen und
"Arbeitsfläche einrichten" auszuwählen, dort müsstest du eigentlich die
Möglichkeit haben eigene Bilder einzufügen. Bei mir (KDE 4.3.8x) gibt es eine
Liste in welcher ich Bilder auswählen kann und drunter befindet sich eine
Öffnen Schaltfläche (blaues Ordnersymbol), mit der ich eigene Bilder auswählen
kann. (Kann sein das es in 4.3.3 nur ein Ordner-Symbol ist ...). Wichtig ist
natürlich auch das du bei "Type" "Bild" auswählst.

Arbeitsflächenhintergrund

Hallo,

ich würde gerne als Hintergrund für meine Arbeitsfläche ein
selbstgemachtes Bild einsetzen. Unter KDE 3.5 hatte ich das. Unter KDE 4
scheint es nicht zu gehen. Im KDE-Benutzerhandbuch ist es zwar erklärt,
aber es scheint dies noch für Version 3.5 zu gelten. Es stimmt nicht mit
Version 4 überein. Wie komme ich zu meinem Hintergrundbild.

documentation was from kde3 days). I was told that a freeze is
implemented. And I should send my documentation here.

I should have sent this a little while a go, but I was unwell.

[P.S. :- I have been co-ordinating with the core devs and I am
sending this tar ball here after there approval (a major part of the
delay :p ) ]

Suggested Improvment to Skrooge

Hi,

I am a seasoned user of Microsoft Money and Quicken and have been
tracking my personal finances for the last 10 years or so. I have found
it very usefull to be able to look at an account's project balance based
on the list of scheduled operations you have set up. In this way you can
get an idea of whether the account will be overdrawn or not. I can't
seem to do this in Skrooge or in fact any other package in Linux that I
have found.

I would like to see it added to the already impressive functionality you
have built in to Skrooge. The ability to view the data as a graph is
the ideal way of forecasting an account's balance.
