docbook question

Hi,

I'd like to format a textpart as follows:

void func(int line, int column); // this in fixed font
void func(Cursor cursor); // also fixed font
Explanation paragraphs. // INDENTED, normal font

What I tried:

However, this doesn't work as varlistentry as first item want's a
<term>...</term>.

So I tried:

This produces:

Explanation...

Almost correct, but instead of a newline I get a ',' as separator, which
again is wrong.

I also cannot use a simple list because I want to avoid the leading dot.

Can anyone please enlighten me? I just want to indent a paragraph, that's
all. Like <ul>... in html...

I guess with khelpcenter's menu you mean the navigation tree (the left window
in khelpcenter)?

Where the docs are listed in this tree is determined by an entry
Categories=foo in your desktop file, see:
http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/

Please add the line "X-DocPath=help:/your_program/index.html" to
your_program.desktop
Surely, your docbook have to be stored in
/usr/share/doc/HTML/en/your_program (or other common docbook place in your
system).

Hi!

You need to modify en.xml in
/usr/share/apps/ksgmltools2/docbook/xsl/common like this

then modify your_language.xml correspondingly.

It is in trunk/KDE/kdelibs/kdoctools/docbook/xsl/common/en.xml in KDE
trunk repository or in
/usr/share/apps/ksgmltools2/docbook/xsl/common/en.xml after the
installation.

thank you. Now I even found it on kde.org, well hidden.

removed (locally). I am surprised that you always translate
everything I commit so quickly. I think I should make less
frequent documentation commits - normally I divide my changes
into single commits knowing that I will continue soon, but
that of course is double work for you.

First of all, thank you for your programming efforts.

Just put untranslatable string in tag <literal></literal>.

Example:
<literal>payees=X</literal>

And please, if you can, avoid using empty tags (they break translations)
like 751-765 in KMJ documentation.

several things that should stay english in all translations.

how can I mark them to be untranslatable?

concretely I explain how to define scoring rules for my game.
The syntax for those rules must always be english. Example
strings:

payforall

Folder share/doc/HTML/lang_code/common/ in the KDE Documenation

Hallo,

in kde 1.x(?) / 2.x / 3.x all languages had a folder docs/common in the source
tree which was installed to share/doc/HTML/lang_code/common/, with the files
fdl-translated.html, gpl-translated.html, lgpl-translated.html, kde-
localised.css, and logotp3.png.

This folder got lost in most languages during the transition to kde 4.x and
that is the reason for this bug report about invalid symbolic links in a
language package:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=198510

1) The files *-translated.html are used in the actual html documentation
generated at build time.
In the current situation all teams without these files in lang_code/common/
have three dead links in the html displayed in khelpcenter or konqueror.
The german language has these files, gpl-translated.html is an inofficial
translation with a disclaimer about its not official status and a link to the
english gpl-html.

2) logotp3.png is an obselete localised kde logo and afaik unused.

3) kde-localised.css can be used to overwrite settings in kde-default.css.
This is a feature from the ancient kde times and was disabled long time ago:

There were two use cases i found for this feature:
a) In the romanian language all paragraphs should be indented on their first
line (http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-docbook&m=107411730902329&w=2)
b) A request from a hebrew translator about rtl support
(http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-i18n-doc&m=101923507207310&w=2)

This feature can be enabled again with this patch for
kdelibs/kdoctools/customization/kde-chunk.xsl:

+<xsl:param name="html.stylesheet" select="concat($kde.common,'kde-
default.css',' ',$kde.common,'kde-localised.css')"/>

There are these ways to fix this bug:

a) Remove the remaining two comon folders, switch the links in the html files
to the english licence texts and change the macro kde4_create_handbook
(english docs with common dir + links, language docs without)

b) Add a common dir with *-translated.html files and an empty kde-localised.css
to each language and patch kdelibs/kdoctools/customization/kde-chunk.xsl

To decide what to do we should discuss if there are any use cases for b)

Shared open-source style guide

Hi guys,

An idea was floated at WOSCON [1] to create a shared open-source style
guide for documentation writers [2]. This would be a "vanilla" style
guide, which projects could modify and extend if necessary. Advantages
include:

* No need for projects to write their own style guide from scratch
* Reasonable uniformity in style and terminology across projects
* Independence from external style guides, which may cost money to
access
* Projects which don't have a style guide get one for free

We have people from GNOME, Ubuntu, Xfce and Drupal discussing this right
now, and we'd love for other projects to let us know if they are
interested in the concept, and to give us their feedback if they are.

PLEASE get in touch via the WOS website [1] rather than replying
directly to this message, since this is getting crossposted to a lot of
doc lists.

HowTo write KDE application manual (Handbook) for custom application?

Hi,

-Our application is developed outside of KDE's subversion repository.

-We have a custom/home written KDE4 application. I'm trying to add our application manual/hanbook using the KDE suggestions to do this.

-Following http://l10n.kde.org/docs/ which is very KDE-bundled-applications only centric, I used the dockbook template, edited it adding our application specifics and created html using meinproc4 as suggested. All works fine.

-I drawn up the index.docbook handbook for our application.

Open source and diagramming survey

I am Eunyoung Chung, a Masters student working with Dr. Jensen at
Oregon State University.

We are currently doing a research project in collaboration with Dr.
Truong and Ph.D student Koji Yatani at University of Toronto. Our goal

Fix the docbook errors by changing <article> to <article lang="&language;>

the /kcmdisplay/index.cache.bz2 files for all languages (de es et fr it ru sv
uk) have an english string "the section called".

Thats the one and only index.cache.bz2 file with this error.

In the original kcmdisplay docbook this is the markup <xref
linkend="foo-bar" />.

The kcmdisplay docbook is the only article with the markup xref.

Is this a known limitation or bug?

Is their any other way to fix this than changing the linking element or the
docbok type to book?

The problem with <personname> is that it did not exist when we converted KDE
documentation to DocBook, so we were using <affiliation>.

Then we reported to Norman Walsh that using <affiliation> everywhere was
painful, and also that an author could be unaffiliated (private persons). They
invented <personname> to solve this, and this new element made its way into
the DocBook specification.

So, not only KDE should use <personname>, but we were the ones to invent it
;-).
