Actually I just grabbed the latest cln and libqalculate and the crashing
went away.

Have you already tried running Step in valgrind ? You could also try
to recompile Step with libqalculate disabled and check whether it will
work that way.

Andreas, we will get a great set of pictures for approx. 1500 words from Zdenek - we are also starting to co-operate on contents for basic terminology.

I asked him to compile a source list with licenses and back links so that we can give attribution properly. As soon as we get that I get you two in touch.

My idea is to avoid doing the same work twice. For example, if KmPlot has a feature to draw parametric curves, then this feature don't have to be rewritten by KAlgebra developers.

Well, since we both have different parsers (we support different languages), we can't merge the code itself just like that. Actually I think this library should be a compendium of plotting algorithms which should get the expression and environment values and output lists of polilines.

I can help you creating the abstractions for that (you could use some I already have in KAlgebra for functions and extend it).

learn a bit more about valgrind.

Like I say, trunk. Well, and qt-kde, the stuff you get via git. In
version numbers it's telling me this for Qt:
4.6.0

And this for KDE:
Platform Version 4.3.82 (KDE 4.3.82 (KDE 4.4 >= 20091211))

I'm going with trunk. I suppose I might give it a go on openSUSE as
opposed to Fedora just to see where that gets me.

Well, it goes UnitsCalc::parseNumber() -> Number::floatValue() ->
cln::double_approx(). So I guess the problem is potentially in cln. But
like I say, I copied the code over almost verbatim to my test app and the
test app runs fine, so I'm pretty sure it's not wrong arguments being
passed. In fact I'm spitting out debug statements in both the real code
and the test code and the contents of all the variables seem to match
exactly. Even the type of the expr MathStructure.

Would valgrind be the thing to go with to check for previous memory
corruption?

Hi,

I'm able to crash Step every time I run it simply by creating a disk and
attempting to change the radius slightly. Does the same thing happens for
anyone else?

Anyhow, I threw in some debugging statements and ran step under gdb and it
appears that libqalculate's Number::floatValue() method is the culprit.

In an effort to try and further isolate the problem I for the most part
copied over verbatim Step's UnitsCalc::parseNumber() method to a
simplified stand alone C++ application. Yet when I run this simplified
application I get no crash. Number::floatValue() works just fine.

So now I'm completely at a loss. Does cmake do something odd with regards
to floating point variables that I'm unaware of? And can anyone give me
any advice on how to proceed debugging Step at this point?

Hi people,

As you know, the multimedia people are setting up a meeting in Switzerland in
May and there is room for us. I know some of you would prefer an Edu-own
meeting but this is just impossible for me to organize.
What we'll have: our own room with internet and I can bring a beamer.
What we'll share: meals (at the house itself, we'll take turns to help make
them) We can walk and have fun with others as well but we can stick more to
ourselves if we want.

The meeting will happen on several days but if you can only make it for the
week-end, it's already fine and we'll set up agenda accordingly.
If you'd like to bring kids/babies and family there's room for them as well
and it's a lovely location with pure air!

Hi Andreas,
I like the idea, thanks for the mockup - that always helps a lot in
understanding things :)

The idea would require to enable scripts to control more things in the app,
which is not necessarily a bad idea, it's just not currently possible.
This project is a bit bigger.
I won't really get around to working much on Parley until the end of the year
holidays, it would be great if you could file a feature request on bug.kde.org
so it doesn't get forgotten. You can simply link to the opendesktop page you
created.
