KTorrent 4.0beta1 and 3.3.2 released

KTorrent version 4.0beta1 is out, this release adds support for magnet URL's.
Next to the magnet support, some other smaller features were also
added. Including the possiblity to add multiple trackers at the same
time, the bandwidth scheduler can now be disabled temporarely and the
IP filter dialog now supports IP ranges.

Next to the 4.0beta1 release there is also a new bugfix release for
the 3.3 branch, this fixes two crashes

I would like to thank everybody who contributed to these releases.

[ANN] KMid2 preview release

KMid2 is a MIDI/Karaoke player for KDE4.

KMid was developed more than ten years ago, so it was time for a revamping.
KMid2 is a rewrite from scratch, with a new architecture and also some new
features.

This is a preview release. Should not be used in production.

Here are some major features:
* Plays MIDI and Karaoke files.
* Playback to external hardware MIDI devices.
* Allows to use software synths as well.
* Tempo and volume controls.
* Pitch (transpose) control.
* Rhythm view (visual metronome).

KTorrent 3.3.1 has been released

primarily a bug-fix release, with the following changes:

However, I can't figure out what I need to do to instruct create_tarball.rb to

KTorrent 3.3 released

After many months of work, 3.3 is finally out. This new releases
contains many bugfixes, and a lot of new features. The GUI has been
redesigned, a new shudown plugin has been added to shutdown your
computer when one or more torrents finish seeding or downloading. The
mediaplayer plugin gains a playlist and will now prevent the
screensaver from starting and the powermanagement from sleeping or
hibernating when you are playing a video. The queue manager's behavior
has been changed.

I'm against kdebase for several reasons. I reject the trend to move
everything that might be construed as basic functionality to kdebase - KDE
works just fine without a NetworkManager,wicd,connman client on a desktop with
static networking, and on several other platforms which have their own
networkmanagement stacks.

No-one will ignore or not find KNM if it's in extragear.

And my experience was that Kopete moving to main modules at that point in its
lifecycle killed innovation. If we did interim releases as well as kdebase
releases we'd always be competing with the main module releases, as well as
trying to figure out whether 'I use knetworkmanager on 4.3.3' in a BR meant
the copy shipped with 4.3.3 or a later interim release.

can we get a short meeting on irc together to discuss what needs to be done
for 4.4? it's bordering on the ridiculous that we don't have this done 2 years
into kde 4 releases, so let's make it a priority, figure out what's needed and
then get the manpower on it.

I wasn't clear enough, sorry. :)

The whole networkmanager thing has two clients right now. A 'systray' (sorry,
statusnotifier!) based one, called knetworkmanager. This is a separate executable,
and pretty stable. It's also the one shipped with openSuse and Kubuntu (at least).
Then, there's the Plasmoid, which is more shiny, but also not quite finished.

Both clients are currently part of the networkmanager/ directory, which we'd like to
move into a released module for 4.4. They're making use of the same underlying
library to interact with networkmanager (and possibly other middleware stuff doing
the same, think of connman). So: underlying mechanisms are shared, there are two UIs.

As the plasmoid is not ready for consumption, it probably shouldn't end up on users'
systems, but I also wouldn't like to keep it separate since it's closely entangled
with the rest of networkmanager. The knetworkmanager thing on the other hand is IMO
close enough to release quality.

My proposal in more detail:

- move networkmanager/ to a released module (through usual kdereview process)
- exclude networkmanager/plasma for now, but keep it in the same location
- as soon as we feel confident enough about the plasmoid, we'll have it reviewed
separately before it ends up in a release

For the NM plasmoid, I'm aiming at 4.5. Realistically, without additional manpower
the plasmoid won't be ready for 4.4.

I miss why moving to extragear means splitting anything up? Also not
wanting to release with 4.4 and have some more flexibility is a good
reason to be part of extragear. Its the whole point.

We shouldn't give any rule exceptions though, moving to extragear
means a 2 week stay in kdereview.

That said, the other components are good to go into 4.4. They're being released by at
least two distros in their standard install and Will has been fixing bugs left and
right to make it solid.

Krusader 2.1.0-beta1 "Rusty Clutch" released

Hello,

i am pleased to announce the first release of Krusader since the move to kde-
extragear. It a well balanced mix of stabilization and new features.

The highlights of krusader-2.1.0-beta1 are:

- Stabilization and code consistency
- Old views have been replaced by the interviews
- A new fast text and hex viewer called Lister
- Queued archive handling, which in addition is job based now
- Improved tab support, including locked tabs
- Better trash integration

We plan to enter a feature and string freeze with the release of a second
beta.

Yes please, at least worth a try.
I've been looking for a new maintainer on the kpovmodeler homepage for
over a year now without success.

kpovmodeler unmaintained

Hi,

I couldn't spend the time to maintain kpovmodeler for a long time now.
Please remove kpovmodeler from releases. There are too much serious bugs
for releases.

Krecipes 2.0-alpha4

Hi,

I have released Krecipes 2.0-alpha4; quoting the annouce for the previous
release:

The important bit in this release are the importers/exporters.

Krecipes is suposed to be able to import/export recipes from/to various
formats. There are some tests to check if these importers/exporters work.
Since I started to work on Krecipes, most of these tests was failing with a
weird segmentation fault. Some days ago, I solved an apparently unrelated bug
and, lucky me, the tests started to work. Then, I executed the tests and I
found several bugs in the exporters and importers which was making some of
them unusable; the mmf importer (among others) was broken. I consider the
issues enough important to release this alpha4 version.

The program still needs more testing but, if I recall correctly, right now
there isn't any functionality untested.

Lastly, note that this is alpha4 and not beta1, so we are not in string freeze
yet.

KTorrent 3.2.5 and 3.3rc1 released

The 3.3 release is coming soon, in preparation for this the first
release candidate is out. It fixes a lot of bugs in the beta. For a
full list take a look in the ChangeLog file.

We have also released 3.2.5, the last release in the 3.2 series. It
fixes a crash and the broken tracker timeout handling.

Both releases can be found on our website http://ktorrent.org. I would
like to thank everybody who contributed to this release.
