Searching one old kde 1.x/2.x theme

Hi, I'm searching two things:

1. A wallpaper pattern that looks like a fine knitted or woven
green background. The contour isn't that distinctive but as a
pattern-desktop-background it just looks pretty nice.

2. A dark theme from the old days (kde 1 or 2). It's a bit of a
gothic styled one and I think this is called "dark-green"
or "black and dark green".
The shape of the windows have curlicues and a long drop on the
side down left.
There were also themes with the same shape but different colors.
Like: dark-red and dark-blue. But the green-black was the best.

I think I found it in the old days at kde-look.org. I also asked

At this time I used a suse 6.x distribution. But I don't have the
cd-set anymore and in the net isn't this release. Because I
suppose the green wallpaper was on these cds.

Wallpaper suggestion

Yeah, these posts may be old (1,5 year already) and you may even have
seen it. But I still was able to find some ideas I've never heard of
before.
Some of these "fresh views" may be attributed to the MacOS itself,
however some ideas seem to be a result of quite interesting
observations.

I mean these ideas may be worth to think about including them and/or
enhancing them, to eventually put them into new KDE, making it even
better of course!

Yes, color settings changed a little, as it seems. For one the config key
changed to BackgroundAlternate*, for the other it is no longer set in the
group [General] but is set explicitly for several view categories, see the
groups [Colors:*].

What is even best: You can finally edit them via the color settings:
start systemsettings->Appearance->Colors->Tab "Colors"->Select "View" (where
Common Colors is default)-> edit "Alternate Background" in the list

And yes, this list is close to wrong. Better try mailinglist "kde"
(http://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde) for this type of questions next
time, you might get more and better answers there :)

(But..) i have a question about color-schemes.
On KDE3 i had on my "kdeglobals"

this is because of eye-handicapness and a white/black color-scheme. But
now it does not work anymore. So my Colors alternate between black/white
ande white/white each line on some/most programs, like dolphin/konqueror
for instance. How and where do you can change the color propertie of the
earlier so called "alternate Background". As far as i knew on kde 3
there was no menu for changin. The only was was to edit the "kdeglobals"

sorry for bothering, but surfing on the internet with this scheme is

Smooth Scrolling

Does anyone know how I would configure KDE so that apps, especially Konqueror, have the "smooth scrolling" like they do in Firefox? I thought I remembered that this was an option but I can't find it anywhere in the KDE Control Center.

depending on what you talk about, the effects can be configured in
kcontrol/Appearance&Themes/Styles/Effects

problem. I'm configuring a LTSP server, and I can't disable Mouse Over
Effects in kdeglobals (or anywhere) for the group (not for user). How

kio_man customization (css)

Hello,

I'd like to customize the looks of the man kioslave for one specific
user. The man:/ kioslave seems to use a global CSS file for rendering
its pages, /usr/kde/3.5/share/apps/kio_man/kio_man.css. Naturally, I
tried to set up my own kio_man.css in ~/.kde/share/apps/kio_man though
this doesn't seem to be read by Konqueror.
What's the proper way to make user-specific alterations to the CSS file?

Static KDE Theme Needed

Good Day,

We have an immediate need for a static LCARS/Star Trek theme for an
experimental desktop OS that uses KDE version 3.5.

We have already developed the artwork for the theme, which describes the
exact look and feel that we wish to implement. We wish to apply the
theme to the KDE Wallpaper, Taskbar, Menu/Sub-Menu’s, and Windows Manager.

We estimate that the job will require 5-8 hours of work. If you are able
to implement our static theme then we would also like to work with you
on the design and implementation of a dynamic KDE theme.

If you are interested in working with us, then please respond as soon as
possible, and we will send you more details on the project including our
proposed artwork.

Static KDE Theme Needed

Setting up Apache2 & No-Ip

I'd like to run a Web Hosting service for myself... that is, I've
loaded
Apache2 and I can view my stuff via localhost...
I'm using no-ip, and I can't view my site at
http://danix.no-ip.info/
when my IIS computer is plugged in... I don't know why... when I try to
check it out, the page that pops up is the one loaded in my Windows XP Pro
computer (IIS)...
I'd love to be able to use Mozilla to view my website, find a typo
or
something similar, and switch to composer or frontpage, make the changes,
click save, and be done... but, I have never been able to edit pages
through no-ip... and I'm not certain why...
also, when I want to test the setup on the Debian-Sarge computer,
I simply swap the last octet of the IP which effectively changes the
computers that the router is forwarding the port to... and when I pick the
Debian-Sarge computer it gives me 'The page cannot be found'...
Bottom Line:
1. IIS (mcgrew.no-ip.info) - Port Forwarding - Works
2. Apache (danix.no-ip.info) - Port Forwarding - Delivers
what is on the IIS machine until the LAN cord is unplugged from
the IIS machine... then, It stops working
I don't understand why...
is the address I'm using wrong??? that is, should it be
something else, like;
http://danix.no-ip.info/Apache2-default/ (doesn't work)...
or ...
http://danix.no-ip.info/Apache2-default/index.html.en
(doesn't work)???

Should all my files be loaded into the Apache2-default
directory or the www directory???
I would really, really like to be able to log into my
Apache2 server and upload/download/edit pages... I just don't know how to
get that to work... I've downloaded no-ip and installed it... I'm not
certain how to test it to see if it's working...
I will appreciate any help that anyone can render...

Problems with mouse in KDE

I've loaded Debian on at least four computers about 10 times... Some more
than others... lol...

Anyway, I've loaded it this last time, on a DELL Optiplex GX100... It's
working absolutely wonderful, as always, however I've built 3 profiles on
this 'puter and mine is messed up... I'm not certain exactly what I did to
accomplish this unusual feat, but I would like to know how to fix it...

I have to click to select main list items on my menu... in all the other
installations, I simply hold the mouse over the item in the KDE list menu
and it's selected, the sub-menu pops out...
However, at the present it's not working like that... If anyone knows how to
fix that I would really appreciate it if you could impart that information
to me...

One other problem I'm having is with the mouse. I have a two button mouse
with a scroll wheel in the middle... the scroll wheel it's working...
In control center I have these items selected;
GENERAL
Button Order = Right Handed
Single-click to open files and folders
Change pointer shape over icons
visual feedback on activation

CURSOR THEME
KDE-classic

ADVANCED (Using setup defaults)
Pointer acceleration 2.0x
Pointer threshold 4 pixels
Double-click interval 400 msec
Drag start time 500 msec
Mouse wheel scrolls by 3 lines

Mouse navigation (by keyboard NOT selected)

I've also looked at other instanced on this computer that work the way that
I want them to work and can't find the difference... they look the same...
I've got to be missing something...

It's always something small, a check-mark in a box somewhere, or something
tiny and hard to find like that... there are so many check boxes... lol...

default color-scheme

Hi, I have figure it out.. I was doing everything fine, but I was not
adding the colors their self to the kdeglobals...
I though with the path to the color-scheme name will be just fine..
turns out I have to expeify all the scheme list again inside
this configuration file. so now it works.

Just in case I am doing something wrong.. here is what I do.. PLEASE let
me know if I am..

this is on a debian based distro, actually kubuntu base distro..

I created a path:
/usr/share/mydistro-default-settings/kde-profile/default/share/config/
in config I have "kdeglobals"

in KDE globals I add this line:
under [KDE]

colorScheme=mydistroColours.kcsrc

of course I edit /etc/kderc and kde knows about this path:
I know cause I run:
kde-config --path config and I get
/home/user/.kde/share/config:/etc/kde3:/usr/share/mydistro-default-settings/kde-profile/default/share/config:

so what does my color scheme is not working as default in the system?
I wipe ~/.kde and when I log in it will still show the old default
scheme(the regular kde blues etc)

this is the place to ask for this.. KDE lists :-) if people don't know
here is going to be tuff to me to find out some other place... :-(

Hi Torsten, I am working on the KDE version of gnewsense
(http://www.gnewsense.org) is basically a fork from ubuntu
and I am doing basically the Kubuntu fork. everything is done, I just
need to add my theme to be able to upload (builder, a set of scripts
that automatize the whole creating of the distro) right know
builder is done only for gnewsense gnome.. I already did the right
changes/add ons to be able to do a kde system on it. after the color
scheme im done.. I have usplash, kdm and kplash with my own custom
themes made for it, but the color scheme is just giving me trouble :-)
let me see what I find with your tips, I very much appreciate it.

It's always good to hear about new distros using KDE. What kind of distro is
this :-) ?

Do you know about the kde-config tool? It tells you about the ressources and
paths KDE is retrieving its information from:

kde-config --types

lists the different kinds of ressources and

kde-config --path config

lists the paths KDE is browsing to find the proper configuration.
You can add further paths using KDE's Kiosk framework. If you haven't heard
about it yet, I'd suggest to you to read about it. You can basically use it
to create your own profile and store it seperately from the default system
configuration.
I'd suggest to you to subscribe to the kde-kiosk mailing list as people there
should be more familiar with problems like this.

I am trying to change the default color-scheme by default... but when I
put the livecd together and even when I install
it just ignores the setting and installs into the user direcory ~/.kde
space another config file I have never wrote..
in my case is kdeglobals I am adding:
[KDE]
colorScheme=Mytheme.kcsrc

but it just ignores it.. I have to manually do it from the gui and of
course this is not what I need, I need this change globally so any new user
and the livecd gets those colours..

before I decided to come here for help I google the hell out of me, but
is all GUI related.. I have not found a way to do it from the shell and
make it system default.
so if I wipe ~/.kde the new ~/.kde comes with *my* defaults.

kopete doesn't notify me of new messages any more

I'm using the kopete version provided with the kdenetwork-3.5.2 gentoo
package.

with KDE 3.4, the control bar started blinking when I got a message in
an already open chat window in ICQ.
With the new version, it doesn't, which is quite annoying, as I don't
see replies any more without directly switching to the appropriate
virtual desktop.

I can configure kopete to present me a small window notifying me, but I
like the old style much better.
"Classic", "transparent" or "elegant" control bar style don't affect
this behaviour.

Did anybody experience similar problems, or does anybody have a solution?

How can I prevent right-clicking on the menu icon?

does anybody know how to configure a user environment (KDE 3.5) to prevent right-clicking on the menu icon from the task bar? I would like NOT to use the Kiosk tools but distribute a patched configuration file instead.

some thumbs hardly visible on pager

I've recently moved to KDE 3.5, but this also annoyed me with the 3.4
version ...

I'm using a rather dark desktop, and for many apps it's quite hard to
see which virtual desktop the window is on (see attached screenshot).

(If you don't get what I mean, try to find the terminals I have opened.
They are visible, but quite hard to find on the pager.)

I haven't found an option in any of the KDE menus to improve this behavior.
If there is some config file entry that can help this, I'd be glad to
receive a hint on it.
If not, could it be possible to brighten the thumbnails so they become
more distinguishable or draw some kind of bounding box so I can at least
see the outlines of the windows?
