The application warns you if you try to close it and have modified data which
was not saved (unless you have turned that off). Also it has the ability to
turn on auto-saving in the settings dialog. Unfortunately, you did not tell
us, which version you are using, so it's kind of hard to comment.

Looks like you are using an older version of the application. Please upgrade
to the current stable 1.0.2 which contains an overhauled schedule editor.

Really appreciating your great piece of software.

only things i can fault is budgeting facilities and i reckon an automatic saving ability would be spot on for a programme like this- i have accidentally closed it a couple of times and consequently lost everything i had previously done.

Actually, I have it running on OS X snow leopard right now. But the install was rather long (but worth it!).

1. Install MacPorts if you have not already done so.
http://www.macports.org/

2. Follow the instructions here:
http://kmymoney.darwinports.com/

NOTES:
- Darwinports is the old version - use macports for snow leopard on any Intel Macs
- You can install the latest version of kmymoney2
- The install could take a LONG TIME - mine went overnight as it was installing a lot of KDE libraries, perl, etc...
- When you run it the first time, it may fail due to a bug that has been noted on the message boards (for other linux distros, this bug is also there - there are permissioning problems) - follow the instructions and delete those directories in your home path - google for instructions
- kmymoney2 should work fine after that on your OS X snow leopard

Possible minor inconsistency

While messing around with my csv conversion thing, I came across a minor
problem.

I had bank statements converting successfully, but a prices list in csv
format which I exported from Quicken (print to file) just 'disappeared'.
Comparing with the Quicken qif format version, I found that that had
quotes around the symbol and date fields. Obviously, the inconsistency
starts with Quicken, but is there a *need* for KMM to depend on them for
prices lists, when it doesn't for bank and investment transactions? I'd
been stripping them out, purely for cosmetic purposes, as it looked a
bit odd for some fields to have them and others not.

message you get after that?
That will give us more info on why it doesn't work.

detached as possible from the main code. Having it as a plugin, even
if hosted alongside the main code, fulfills that.
The kbanking and ofx plugins work like that, and they are both hosted
in SVN now.

About using python or C++, I think it would be better to use C++, but
I'm sure we can work something out.

of a qif file, whereas the last script could be used as a qif filter for
the csv file, allowing a direct import. With suitable file association,

While not an expert, I would have said that the items you bought using
your credit card are where your actual expenditure was, and that the
transfer to your credit card account is in effect the repayment of a loan.

Transfers

Hi,
I need a little help with this situation.
I have two bank cards. One is credit and one is debit (here in our country we
have such cards). In the debit card I get my salary every month. The account of
this card can be only positive.
Also, every month after I receive the salary, I transfer from the account of the
debit card to the account of the credit card (because I had some credits taken
from it). For me this transaction is expense but in the reports of Incomes and
expenses (yearly and monthly) I do not see this transaction.
So, what I have to do to see this transaction as expense in my reports?

Great program! It seems there is a problem with the budget report. If I choose just to show the year, quarter etc. the data shown is actually just a month of that year even though it says at the top , year, quarter etc...

Apologies for an oversight, plus a couple of afterthoughts.

The attached file CSV_ui.py also needs to be in the same folder as the
first file.

A late addition was the character encoding feature, to cope with
different character sets. I had to modify /usr/lib/python/site.py, by
changing 'encoding = "ascii" ' to 'encoding = "utf-8" ' to allow utf-8
files to be read. I've only included a few types, so if I need to add
more, let me know.

I also see that, when I use myKubuntu instead of my openSuse, that the
GUI character spacing needs to be adjusted.

pinentry-qt was missing. I've installed it and it's working as expected.
I have this in the gpg-agent.conf file. I have set this hole stuff in 2003 ...
on 32bit and never changed it.

Can't open /kmymoney.widgets - variable abs_srcdir is not setup - patch

With kmymoney CVS HEAD on Ubuntu 9.04 with automake 1.7 and autoconf 2.63, $abs_srcdir definition is
not created in kmymoney2/kmymoney2/widgets/Makefile.in resulting in a build error.

problem also reported by Mike on Jul 29, 2009, (Autoconf is version 2.61-4, automake is 1.7.9-9)
and by Boris Kavod - 2009-07-12 (automake 1.9.6)
and by Tami King - 2009-07-13 (automake 1.9.6)

Sorry, I ran out of time yesterday. I'll try this today and also try the
1.0.2 version and report back.

For now it looks to me that kmymoney does not understand that the file is
encrypted and fails reading it.

I tried what you suggested - copied the file locally and deciphered it with
kgpg - everything working fine.

Also I was able to open the unencrypted file with kmymoney afterwards.

What's the rootcause for this ... somthing kmymoney and gpg file?

What I would like to also try if I am going to have the same issue with a
clean user environment - i.e. create new user, create personal gpg
encrypted wallet and test with it.

My guess is that linking between encryption and wallet is set at creation
time and written somewhere, so that the app knows it has to decipher the
specified file.

Have you tried various combinations of running gpg on both machines?
For example, encrypt the same file on both machines and see if the
resulting file is the same. If it is not the same, then that would be
a gpg problem. If the results are identical, then decrypt that file on
both machines. If there is a strange gpg problem, that might help find
it wihtout involving KMM.

Thank you very much for your response.

Yes, this is the strange thing in the story.
I'm mounting the same home dir from the same 32bit server running same lenny
distro with 32bit debian there is no issue.

The file I have created in 2006 is encrypted with a key that is valid and
signed. IT is however not default, but both kmymoney32/64 read the same
config file in my home dir ... I don't have any idea.

The really strange thing is that it is not asking for gpg password, so it
might be some link to gpg is missing somewhere, as I've installed the hole
system from scratch, but this is definitely not a user (home-dir) issue.
I still did not have time to check which packages I want to migrate from my
32bit installation, so I don't know if I'm not missing some library, but all
dependencies are solved, so I guess not.

I could compare the system files on both 32 (I've been using before) and 64bit
(I'm using now).

I've just compiled kmymoney2-1.0.2 but it's trying to install a sqlite plugin
in qt in /usr where I don't want to have it, so may be I'll try tomorrow
installing into a test env, because it got alaready too late.

How can I help you debugging this, or where should I look at?

Bug#558826: kmymoney2 on x86_64 can not read gpg encrypoted file created on i386 system

I'm not sure if it is a problem in the application or somewehre else, but I just moved my debian system to x86_64 bit
and now I can not read my kmymoney data files.
I have my data on a i386 machine and mount a directory over nfs. On the i386 I can open the gpg encrypted kmymoney file
and on the 64bit system I can not open this same file. I have made a local copy but it still says it can not read from
the file.

What would be your advice. What should I do?

My plan is to download and compile the latest version and see what happens, but wanted to let everybody benefit
from my experience.

Don't do that. I try to setup an example here. You have account A the asset
account for the security, account C your checking account and L as the loan
account. Assume, that you have to pay a security deposit of 1000. You have
500 available on C and need a loan for the other 500. Then you payoff the
loan in 5 easy installments of 100 each from you checking account. Interest
is 10 each month to make it easy (hopefully this is not a real figure).
Another assumption is, that your networth is 10000 in the beginning and all
the funds are in C.

First you install the security deposit the following way:

C A L
--> 500 ----> simple transfer
<-- 500 ----- loan payout

Your networth at this point:

C: 9500
A: 1000
L: -500

still 10000 so no gain or loss

Now to the first loan payment

C A L I
---> 100 ------------------> principal
-------------------------------> 10 --> interest

Your networth at this point:

C: 9390
A: 1000
L: -400

Networth is now at 9990 because you had 10 expenses. After you repeat this 5
times you see the following balances:

C: 8950
A: 1000
L: 0

Networth is now 9950 which is the initial 10000 minus the 50 interest.

OK, now assume you move out after the first loan payment and want to payoff
the loan immediately because you get back the security deposit. Here's how it
works:

A: 1000
L: -400

---------------- 400 ------> final principal payment

Your networth at this point:

C: 9990
A: 0
L: 0

Hope you understand what I want to say (though this is more of a user question

Thank you to help me.

I've made something like that but there is no relation between the asset
account which carries the garantee payement and the liability account for the
loan. The problem is that the liability account decrease with my refunding so
if I transfert the refunding to the asset account the value decrease twice.

My idea is just to made this two account and if I leave the appartement
tomorrow I 'll transfert a part of the money from the asset account to refund
the loan account and the other part to my current account. Thast all...

Do you think it's ok ?
