I am using current kate on Fedora:
[fm@thinkpad src]$ rpm -qf `which kate`
kdesdk-4.3.4-1.fc12.i686

But there is one usability issue for me. After pressing the save button the
save icon is still clickable. Nevertheless it seems like kate tracks the status
of the file as it is indicated in the title bar whether the file has changed.

I'd really appreciate to immediately see if I have already saved the file.

While I'm at it: How can I prepend $current-indent-width to each line of the
snippet? Should I parse the current/last line manually and insert that myself?
Or is there some API for that?

How to cope with tabs in snippets

Hello fellow devs!

As you can see in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219250 , I have a
serious problem with tabs in the snippet handler:

- I parse the text to be inserted and save me the KTextEditor::Ranges of all
variables
- I insert the text
- I create SmartRanges out of the KTextEditor::Ranges

I have to do this, since SmartRanges are "too smart" - if I try to create them
before inserting the text, they wont work (as they get moved once we insert
the text, or they'll say: nay, the range you gave me is not valid in the
current document).

But well, the above fails utterly when we deal with tab-expansion etc. How
should I cope with it? I mean imo it's great that kate does the tab-expansion,
one day we'll hopefully have lots of snippets via GHNS and I don't want to
change them just so they use snippets instead of tabs or something like
that...

But OTOH I'd need to know the text _after_ I inserted it and _then_ parse it
for variables... I'm pretty lost here.

The 'statements' is a placeholder preceded by a \t. I just gave focus to this
placeholder and took the screenshot. Notice that the selection focus is set
considering \t as a simple whitespace (' ').

I guess the plugin isn't prepared for handling TABs as indenters (I just tested
it with preceding single spaces and everything worked well).

This happens for me too but on Kubuntu Karmic, same version as above.

My usecase: First line text, second line empty, third line text again. Now try
to delete the second line. First one gets deleted too.

This worked just fine in KDE 4.3 and renders the replace functionality quite
unusable. So setting it to a blocker (I wasn't able to verify yet, will do so
later and readjust if necessary).

Prototype Katescript for Unwrap

Here's a prototype Katescript. The basic logic is there, but I am unable to
test it on my system for whatever reason because even reload-scripts does not
work at the F7 commandline. Only some scripts like cleanindent, uncomment etc
work. (My distro is Kubuntu Karmic Koala.)

Since I'm travelling from tomorrow, I'll be unable to access the net for some
days, so I'm posting it as it is FWIW. Please take it and finetune it.

BTW my previous Python script actually has some bugs. I haven't bothereed to
correct them yet (and you aren't going to use it anyway for Kate).

Fine, but in C++, the human-intelligible logical operators and, or and not are
treated as keywords and shown as bold by default, and operators like + - etc
(or even the equivalent C-compatibility logical operators && || !) are not
treated specially. I do not see a particular reason why Python syntax -- where
and, or and not have the same semantics as in C++ -- should be treated
differently in this matter.

That is, why should there be a separate class operators for Python alone which
contains and, or and not whereas there is no such class in C++? What is the
special need to distinguish operators in Python whereas there is no such need
in C++? I have written programs in both languages and personally do not see
such need.

I request for the "Operators" class being abolished for Python and the words
(as against symbols like +) that belong to such a class be moved to one of the
keyword categories. This improves consistency with other languages like C++. Of
course, the converse could be done as well, i.e. an Operators category could be
demarcated for C++ as well, but whatever is done must be done consistency
across languages *as far as possible*.

It is also worth noting that

http://docs.python.org/3.1/reference/lexical_analysis.html#operators both list
only symbol-based operators under operators. While I do not contest the
analysis of and/or/not as operators *in function*, I believe that their
exclusion of them from the "official" list of operators clearly indicates that
there is a perceptual difference between and/or/not as operators and
symbol-based operators.

BTW while I can understand how "in" and "is" are considered operators, how is
"assert" considered an operator? Neither

would indicate that way...

It could be they're not highlighted on purpose so they stand out between

While editing file I wanted to find/replace a certain string with another one.
I noticed that this simply doesn't work.

Please find attached sample file and try to reproduce with it.
Steps to reproduce:

1. Start KWrite (tried in kdevelop too)
2. Open itemsviewdelegate.cpp (attached) in it
3. Open replace ui from Edit->Replace...
4. Replace settings: PlainText, MatchCase=ON, SearchOptions=>all off
5. In "Find" field type "button", in "Replace" type "installButton"
6. Press Next. it finds "include <kpushbutton> - not what I want
7. So press Next again => it doesn't work => BUG

And all consequent Next's wont work. Although there are a lot of matches for
"button" in this file. You can check it by switching back to incremental search
and searching for "button".

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open KWrite.
2. Turn on VI editing mode (not sure if this matters)
3. In config dialog enable "Editing=>Highlight trailing spaces" and
"Open/Save=>Remove trailing spaces"
4. Start editing a new file and simply insert several spaces in the first line
=> they will be hightlighted with gray dots
5. Press Ctrl+S => file is saved, but dots are still there. At the same time if
you open saved file in other editor (say, vim) you can see that trailng spaces
were correctly removed.

So the bug: katepart should update view to indicate that trailing spaces were
actually removed.
