Hi again
When I increase the linewidth in an splot the line gets wider in one dimension only so
you are looking at a 2-dim projection of a 3-dim object.
in this projection everything is flat.

that what started as line before increasing the linewidth looks like a plane after increasing

the thicker line look like a beam instead of a plane (ie linewidth increase in 2 dimensions)?
a 3-dim tube is reduced to a flat strip in the 2-dim projection - that's what
you see.
and because the projected line has the same thickness under all viewing
angles, it's the 2-dim projection of a 3-dim tube.
if it would be flat in 3-dim you would be able to select a viewing angle under
which you could look at the line 'from the side', i.e. the line thickness would
reduce to 1 pixel. obviously, you can't do that.
