localization : correcting french translationsHi,
GeoServer 2.0 is a just great improvement ! I absolutely want to use it in prod, now. But I guess my clients will pest against some labels being badly translated. How can I fix some translations ? I've looked in the GS doc, and did not find mentions about how to fix bad or missing translations. Do I necessary have to look at the source code, and recompile GeoServer, or is it possible without rebuilding it all ? Thanks, Jean

Re: localization : correcting french translationsHi Jean,
You should be happy to know that there has been some recent work on trunk to update the French translation. The work has not been backported to 2.0.x yet however. Hopefully dgricci will chime in here. but once he is done we can backport it and 2.0.1 should come with a french translation. That said if you interested in helping out with the translation here are some quick notes. Unfortunately the i18n documentation has not been updated for 2.x. Or at least not to my knowledge. Unfortunately to translate you will need the source code around, and won't be able to do it with simply the binaries. Here would be steps: 1. Check out geoserver sources: http://svn.codehaus.org/geoserver/branches/trunk/src 2. Do a search for any file named "GeoServerApplication.properties": ./community/dds/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties ./community/hello_web/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties ./community/importer/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties ./community/istyler/src/main/resources/GeoServerApplication.properties ./community/proxy/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties ./community/scriptlet/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties ./community/translator/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties ./extension/arcsde/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties ./extension/geosearch/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties ./extension/web-security/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties ./maven/archetype/webPlugin/src/main/resources/archetype-resources/src/main/resources/GeoServerApplication.properties ./web/core/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties ./web/demo/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties ./web/wcs/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties ./web/wfs/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties ./web/wms/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties 3. For each file to be translated create a copy of the file with the fr language code. For example: cp web/core/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication.properties web/core/src/main/java/GeoServerApplication_fr.properties (However, as said before many of those files already exist since dgricci has been working on translating). 4. Happy translating. To test out the translation you will have to run gs directly from the source code. You can find a quickstart here that will help: http://docs.geoserver.org/trunk/en/developer/quickstart/index.html Hope that helps. -Justin Jean Pommier (IGE) wrote: > Hi, > > GeoServer 2.0 is a just great improvement ! Re: localization : correcting french translationsHi Justin,
Thanks you (late) for the answer. Using the infos you gave me, I found a hack to improve some of the translation without recompiling it all. I'll give the way here, in case some it would help other people : 1) find the library corresponding to the component you want to translate (e.g. WEB-INF/lib/web-core-2.0.0.jar for web core intreface items). Back it up, just in case. 2) uncompress the jar in a temp directory (jar are just zipped files) 3) edit the GeoServerApplication_fr.properties 4) re-compress the jar with the modified files, and replace the original one in the lib directory (may need to turn tomcat -or other servlet container- off) 5) Restart geoserver. The translations should have updated. Of course it is a hack, but can be usefull to avoid recompiling it all, or waiting for next release.... Cheers Jean

Re: localization : correcting french translationsHi Jean,
Very nice! I would say that is as good a strategy as any :) It would be great if you could generate a patch using diff of all the property files, just in case you caught some stuff that is not being caught elsewhere. -Justin Jean Pommier (IGE) wrote: > Hi Justin, > > Thanks you (late) for the answer. > > Using the infos you gave me, I found a hack to improve some of the > translation without recompiling it all. > I'll give the way here, in case some it would help other people : > 1) find the library corresponding to the component you want to translate > (e.g. WEB-INF/lib/web-core-2.0.0.jar for web core intreface items). Re: localization : correcting french translationsHumm, I'm not at ease with those version control tools...
But I remember, in web\core\src\main\java\GeoServerApplication_fr.properties, 'reprojetter' should have just one 't' And in web\wms\src\main\java\GeoServerApplication_fr.properties, the property WMSLayerConfig.defaultTitle = Titre par d\u00e9faut is used as the title for the Styles section (configuring a layer), what is not very explicit. One may expect something more like 'Styles' than 'Default title' or 'Titre par défaut'... Ah, and still configuring a layer, if a raster one, the WCS part is not translated. Don't know why
