Here's minutes from todays Oct 19 Exec Ops meeting. notes are a bit
sparse...

------------------------
- meet with landlord, Matt Chavez, about reducing rent
We are currently negotiation to bring or rent down to current
market rates. 70% confident we'll come to an agreement but we're
always on the lookout for cheaper space alternatives.

- membership: discuss offering 6-month fellowships/residencies. We
have extra space and are actively soliciting project proposals to use
the space

- event requests
   Beneficial Farms CSA request: approved.
SFX will be a food distribution node for Beneficial Farms CSA on
Thursdays. More info, contact Dena.

- grant writing: Reapplying to Jim Rutt's Foundation
Susan will look at last year's proposal

- marketing: consistent message on website, entrance and basic
brochure for salesperson
There's decent percentages (10-15%) we can offer to folks that
bring in a project to SFX.

- sales: need to write four proposals. Looking for proposal writing
talent. Is a compensated task.

- update from web group
should have credit card processing form live by next Monday

- door access cards
we may need to go with a commercial option instead of homebrewed.
Also exploring QWEST for broadband and phone service for security
system. Currently have Comcast.

- education: getting our classes co-listed at UNM, SFCC, CSF, and
Highlands.
Ed Angel, Dave West, Owen, and Steve will be pursuing a Computer
Sciene class with Cris Moore of UNM

- schedule next board meeting
We're past due for a general board meeting. Will schedule for the
next month

Stephen - You may also consider listing comp-sci course with IAIA. I was just speaking with Carlos today about IAIA needing computer science courses.

I have to comment here.  Does QWEST offer something besides DSL that
I'm not aware of?  DSL is slower than cable and speed is also
dependent on the distance from the central office.  Cable speed can be
affected by many users sharing one line, but distance is usually not a
factor and cable is starting from a relatively faster speed to start
with.  Believe me when I say I'm no big fan of Comcast, but I've
already noticed bandwidth issues with some of what we want to use our
connection for, most noticeably when streaming video of Projected Light.

Just some advice on this note...
do a google for "compromising a DSL modem"
you'll get a listing from search dot com or similar,
in a nutshell, there's a bot out there constantly attacking DSL modems,
I ran into it with Qwest, they know about it, they re-flashed modems while I was still in SF.
The bot re-flashes your modem once it breaks down the modems external security,
among the odd symptoms, you are scrutinized 24/7 and it'll upload html pages for example you corrected that you just tweaked and replace them with gigo you just fixed.
