mobile phone for tetraplegicPlease could someone give me the latest information on the best mobile
phone for a tetraplegic individual with no functional use of his hands. He is a successful Dragon NaturallySpeaking user but I do not think voice command offered by Windows Mobile or other phone systems is totally handsfree even with the extra software? http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/voice-command-features.mspx I have not explored all the latest Possum Gewa systems because I am sure someone on the list will have experience in this field. :>) Many thanks for the help. Re: mobile phone for tetraplegicThe Proteor Keo, which is an environmental controller that I've taken a bit
of a shine to, can be ordered with a Bluetooth interface for a fixed list of mobile phones. Re: mobile phone for tetraplegicThanks Steve - we were looking at an iPhone but the problem is when it
goes into sleep mode? I think all these phones have a way of shutting down that is hard to reactivate without physical touch, but hopefully there is something that can change that state! Re: mobile phone for tetraplegicI don't think a iPhone is perhaps the best option - although worth a
look (the Voice control is pretty good and can control iTunes too) - I just wanted to chip in and state you can stop the phone falling asleep (set auto-lock to never and auto-brightness off) (or if you're writing an app see: http://bit.ly/y85qk). You will probably need it docked though to stop the battery dying in like 30 minutes.. Take a look at the blueant-v1 bluetooth headset which, from the reviews, is pretty much totally handsfree.. e.g. Need to pair it? Just say “Pair me.” http://www.myblueant.com/ w 2009/9/28 E.A. Re: mobile phone for tetraplegicThe AEGIS Project www.aegis-project.eu is addressing this for a range
of mobiles (but not the iPhone) which have open operating systems. One idea is to implement some sort of Bluetooth switch input like that already used by Prentke-Romich. The project has another 2.5 years to run and the development cycle is just starting. We need users and experts to test and advise on the prototypes so any volunteers welcome. Re: mobile phone for tetraplegicInteresting re-post from atmac that Sheldon.
Just something to add to the mix in this whole iPhone debate: mounting. Well this looks pretty handy: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001Q6GU7Y/lockergnome (via the PQ2G email list, now the forums at http://forum.assistiveware.com/ ) w 2009/9/29 Sheldon Gold <sheldongold@...>: > This is an excerpt from a discussion about this exact point and I > thought you might be interested... > > " I'm C4-C5 quadriplegic as well and I've been dying to get an iPhone > since the first one came out but the lack of native voice dialing has > prevented me from doing so.
