nVidia ion platformI saw mention of the "nVidia ion platform" on another list as a
potential MythTV front-end. "Low-power atom processor with nVidia graphics that also support gpu-based mpeg2 & h.264 decoding." I found an article with some photos and videos for it here: http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/12/nvidia-ion-platform-gets-demonstrated-at-ces/ Looks promising. If the price point is good, and they're well supported by open source drivers, they could obsolete dedicated set-top-box hardware using the Sigma Designs MPEG4 decoder chips. -Tom ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Apps built with the Adobe(R) Flex(R) framework and Flex Builder(TM) are powering Web 2.0 with engaging, cross-platform capabilities. Re: nVidia ion platformI have been actively trying to follow ION news; unfortunately, there isn't much so far. However, I'm eagerly awaiting the availability of one. It looks like you will need the newest MythTV with VPDAU support, but with that it should handle 1080p well and run at maybe 20W (and 2W sleeping). Given its size and its ability to run a full frontend, it sounds perfect, especially if they are around $300. John |

I see the pre-order pricing is not bad http://www.play.com/Search.aspx?searchtype=PCSH&searchstring=Acer+Aspire+Revo&page=search&pa=search&go.x=0&go.y=0 and it could make a nice MythTV front end especially with a real lircd remote if the drivers are up to it. North American prices will be lower which is nice. The effect of MS OS cost are certainly getting noticeable as the hardware prices full Martin ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stay on top of everything new and different, both inside and around Java (TM) technology - register by April 22, and save $200 on the JavaOne (SM) conference, June 2-5, 2009, San Francisco. 300 plus technical and hands-on sessions.
