need help with /usr/local/bin/nmap

hey guys, i'm kinda a n00b at this kinda stuff, i've just installed nmap 4.53 on OS X tiger(10.4.11) with terminal, and it works, as in if i enter /usr/local/bin/nmap, nmap will run, but why can't i just enter nmap? is there anyway i can bind /usr/local/bin/nmap to if i just type nmap? please tell me full instructions as i kinda suck at using CLi
