Hello,

Yahoo!, the little internet portal that could, has a number of openings
for unixy people. It's not secret that Yahoo! is using FreeBSD for a
large portion of their hosts, but the job requirements are in general
not all that operating system specific. I consider NetBSD people to be
mostly of the smarter group, so I figured I'd post this mail here, too.

Since there are multiple openings, I won't send the whole job posting,
just the one-line summary. If you're interested, please contact me

This probably involves relocation, though it's not unheard of for Yahoo
to let people work remotely. Let me or Charles know if you're

Hey guys, my team currently has several openings for service engineers (think
systems administrator/package build/release). My team is responsible for
keeping www.yahoo.com, my.yahoo.com, buzz.yahoo.com, in.glue.yahoo.com, Yahoo
Toolbar, a backend data mining system, and a few others up and running
smoothly. We're responsible from the application stack and up. Yahoo has an
awesome production operations team that takes care of racking hardware,
running wires, replacing bad disks, etc.. We take care of installing any
required software bits like apache, mysql, etc.. and packaging and installing
our sites software stacks. We're also responsible for setting up and
maintaining the monitoring of the sites, and working directly with the
software developers to ensure what they build is quality and easy to maintain,
with extremely high availability and operational performance. We dont just
eat tickets and execute request, we're deeply involved in the site
architecture and have strong input on how things should be done.

To that end im looking for candidates who understand how to drive gdb, strace,
ktrace, can debug from the PHP layer down into the network stack. Folks who
believe that when there is a problem you work to understand exactly why the
problem occured, and drive it to permanent resolution, not people who think a
reboot is the solution. Folks who can look at a site architecture and point
out where all the potential points of failure are, and come up with clean,
simple solutions to remove them. Most of the systems in my team are running
BSD with a few RHEL boxes here and there. I currently have openings in our
London & Sunnyvale offices, so if your interested please fire me a copy of

My company uses a grid infrastructure to run modeling and
simulation of clinical trials and drug interactions.

We have our grid system and hardware worked out but there are
several areas I could use some guidance on as we move our
production systems to NetBSD (from Debian & friends).

We're looking for someone who can demonstrate installs of the
following with enough expertise to accelerate our integration:

* Software RAID (guidance to install OS on RAID-1 which will boot from either drive)
* pf rules (have done pfspamd and masq, want high level guidance for additional)
* Monitor, Report and Alarm systems (looking for expert "mon" config/design, snmp traps)
* anonymous cvsup (presently we use internal keys to cvs account, need a no auth/ssh system)
* CA and key management (general advise, have openvpn/https system in production, never tried revocation)
* pkgsrc development (sge6 is working on freebsd, almost on netbsd)
* Remote Console (no experience with IPMI)
* misc web cgi (mod_python preferred, input sanitizing)

I'd like to fully integrate the above in 3 months with most of
the groundwork in 6 weeks. I'll do the integration but I'd like
to see some specific demonstration---to work from---vs generic
documentation.

They are listed in rough priority of immediate needs. In most
cases I have conceptual understanding and some experience but
insufficient expertise for production deployment in this time
frame.

I don't see the need to come on-site, will probably setup a box for
demo and file exchange. Is this something you will be interested

PC-Unix die Rede, was sich gegenwaertig hauptsaechlich auf FreeBSD und
nicht-so-hauptsaechlich auf MacOS X Server bezieht. Die meisten
campusweiten Dienste laufen bei uns unter FreeBSD - ein Teil laeuft nativ,
manche Sachen laufen unter VMware GSX. Wer sich mit NetBSD gut auskennt,

Looking for open source Unix related job

I am looking for work, preferably part time and telecommute. Even
short-term, small jobs are okay.

For the past few years, I have been working as a Unix/open source trainer,
Linux and *BSD consultant and remote administrator, and part-time writer.

I have designed and maintained DNS, mail, web, and RADIUS servers for
various ISPs, hosting thousands of users, DNS domains, and websites.

I am a member of a few notable open source projects and a member of the
BSD Certification Group.

I have hands-on experience with installing, configuring, maintaining,
patching, updating, and/or packaging hundreds of software suites.

I co-authored a Beginning Unix book and have authored over 100 articles
and press releases covering open source and Unix news and features in
print and online media. My degree is in journalism.

I have taught over 55 classes or workshops covering various Unix and open
source software skills. I enjoy giving presentations.

I do a lot of volunteer work: I am currently coaching a youth basketball
team and working on adding DragonFly support to the modular X.org.

Looking for one or two software developers

If you're looking for a job, you'll probably know the job

are available anywhere in the world. Most MySQL people work from home
in a way very similar to the way we work in the NetBSD project. In
particular, I'd like to draw your attention to the positions for #

So why am I sending this message? I'm personally looking for one or
two clever people to work in the online backup team. This is a
project which we hope to complete in about 6 months (so it probably
won't take more than a year). The positions are "permanent", however,
so this means that the people on the backup team will then move on to
other jobs within MySQL that are suited to their abilities. It would
be nice to get more BSD people in MySQL: there are quite a few
already, but not enough!

I've found MySQL to be the only company I've ever worked for that
really understands the Open Source development mentality. It's really
a lot of fun (yes, they're paying me, but not to say that :-) If
