neutral light stays on(solved)

this is driving me crazy. I took dr pistons advice and put a shim in the grearreduction on my 82 920.but when i put it all back together and started the bike didnt seem to help much on the starter but now my neutral light stays on no matter what gear it is in.Is there somthing i did wrong or is it something else the problem and if is can some body help me before i go crazy(lol).Anybody please thats buddy

Possible bad neutral switch or a shorted or pinched wire shorted to ground. Try tracing out the wiring from the neutral light back to the switch to find the ground.

My guess is that you got the neutral switch wire under the side cover and pinched/shorted it when you reinstalled the cover.

got the light fix but i have one more ? about it.Where the wire fastens to the bottom of the motor it had a rubber boot on it but it got hard and i cut it off to get the wire back on the screw and to tighten the screw will water from the road hurt the or make it short out and if so what can i put om it to keep water from getting to it. The boot should be replaced with a new one, but you can run it like that and see what happens if you wish. My recommendation would be to replace the boot.
