newbie:python mapscript install

I'm trying to configure python mapscript with MS4W 3.0

I've installed Python 2.6 and unzipped 3 files from C:\ms4w\Apache\cgi-bin\mapscript\python\build\mapserver-buildkit-2008\Python-2.6.2\Lib\site-packages.

it included a file: mapscript-5.4.2-py2.6.egg-info

mapscript.pyc is missing as per instructions found. I guess this is the compiled version. So I ran it in IDLE 2.6 and it returned some indent error on an If statement.

I'm going to attempt to run the Python mapscript example from Bill Kropla's book "Beginning MapServer". I know the book is slightly outdated so any heads up on changes would be appreciated.

thanks in advance, Mike S

Hi Mike,

As you travel down this path, it would be great if you could record any
problems (install doc incorrect etc.) by filing a ticket in the MS4W
tracker for each issue
(http://bugzilla.maptools.org/query.cgi?GoAheadAndLogIn=1).  Thanks very
much.

I have recorded your first issue in a ticket, so it is not forgotten for
the next release: http://bugzilla.maptools.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2087

(if you create an account, you can then login and file a ticket for MS4W
for each of your issues)
