no /usr/bin/record on debian lenny ?

Greetings soxfolk,

After aptitude install sox, I have a /usr/bin/sox and a
/usr/bin/play, but although the manpage gives record equal
billing, there is no /usr/bin/record.  As /usr/bin/play is
just a symlink to /usr/bin/sox, I created a symlink from
/usr/bin/record too, but the command:
   record x.wav
fails with:
   record: SoX v14.0.1
Failed: Not enough input filenames specified
as if sox were not noticing it was invoked under the name record.

There is a /usr/bin/arecord, with completely different options, is
that what I'm supposed to use ? Should I compile sox from source ?
Does debian deprecate record ?  Will the problem go away after
the next upgrade ?  Advice or background gratefully received...

Regards,  Peter Billam
