is asking for some pointers so bad these days?
i am trying to report as many useful info as i can.

could you be please more specific about the debug symbols?
does this mean that i have to rebuild all of xenocara
with "env CFLAGS=-g make -f Makefile.bsd-wrapper build"
or is it enough just to rebuild the intel driver and/or
the X server?

apm stand-by crashes X server

On my X41, issuing an apm stand-by (apm -S) makes X server crash (presumably
on resume).

This is on -current (snapshot dated 11/30/2009).

since xcompmgr is not one of the programs that we maintain ourselves.

I think they'll probably insist of git format-patch style patches

I had similar problems with mplayer a few years ago. It turned out to be related to the X driver I was using for video (openchrome). I'm thinking the same thing might have happened to you, as the -vo xv screws up, but the -vo x11 does not.

but you said it yourself, mplayer has no business
killing X no matter what it does.

yes, this could very well be hw related. although i think
it is rather systematic for a memory related error, those
problems tend to be more random and a bit more difficult
to reproduce; this is systematic.

the other reason i don't know where to look is simply that
i have used this notebook for almost 2 years now, and there
were no problems like this before. it is only the last couple
of snapshots, last mplayer update. it's all too easy to blame
the hw all the time...

Frantisek, I think you are having weird hardware problems.
I did what you have done on my -current system (A W500 thinkpad)
and watched the video without incident.

I'd start testing memory, or get other parts to see what that
does.

...and still get the error reported above. Is there something else I need

You have to install the xf86-input-ws driver before building xtssscale.

You need to update /etc/mtree/BSD.x11.dist. Run sysmerge, or copy
/usr/src/etc/mtree/BSD.x11.dist into place manually.

I've tried building a fresh checkout with XENOCARA_RERUN_AUTOCONF=Yes
set in /etc/mk.conf but the same problem persists.

The /usr/xenocara/lib/freetype/ directory does not have a
Makefile.bsd-wrapper file?

The problem seems to be that the /usr/xenocara/lib/freetype/Makefile is
not playing well with `make release` and is failing to create
directories under $DESTDIR.

the archive xbase46.tgz from that snapshot does not contain
the .so file, only the .a and .la

i just tried to upgrade to a snashot.
i can't seem to start X using xdm:

# xdm
xdm: can't load library 'libXdmcp.so.10.0'

the snapshot was installed using install46.iso
from ftp://fr.openbsd.org/

can anybody reproduce this?

Well, it works for what I use xset for: setting key repeat parameters,
re-enabling DPMS and screensaver when mplayer crashes.

There used to be 2 ways to set the repeat rate: one for the case without
XKB and the other for XKB.

Now XFree86-Misc is disabled by default and XKB is always on, and
there's a bug somewhere in xset that still makes it verbose, while it's
suppoded to be fixed since 2005:

siliconmotion colors problem

Hi,
I have problem with colors and would like to know if someone had
something alike.

This is the three weeks old snapshot both xenocara and OpenBSD,
machdep.allowaperture=2.

Used hardware: IBM 240X with Siliconmotion LynxEM+

Used depths:
8: works ok
16: able to Esetroot with mixed colors, shouts about double
free() and crashes
24: mixed colors

Used apps:

xgamma: quietly doesn't work at all

xsetroot:
EXA: red => green
green => red
white => yellow
yellow => yellow
blue => black
black => black
XAA: works ok

Esetroot, firefox, etc:
ALL: red => green
green => red
white => yellow
yellow => yellow
blue => black
black => black

Results are the same when updating driver to 1.7.3.

I'm hoping for some tips, advices, thoughts about how to repair it
(mostly depth 24).
