Currently, when the user closes his Gnome session and has still
unsaved OpenOffice.org documents, OpenOffice.org is forced to close
without asking if the unsaved documents should be saved. The result is
that the user has to go thru the
restoring process when he starts OpenOffice.org again.

Unfortunately at least some Gnome versions/configurations are not able
to handle the scenario correctly. In case an application request from
Gnome to show UI on shutdown, and the user is not fast enough to react
to the dialog, the Gnome session manager just crashes. I have
reproduced it with GEdit ( Gnome standard text editor ), so it is
definitely a problem of the Gnome shutdown process.

Since a Gnome configuration might have a problem with the solution as
described above, the new behavior is not active per default. To turn
it on the new configuration property
"org.openoffice.Office.Recovery/SessionShutdown/DocumentStoreUIEnabled"
should be set to true.

To add/edit the custom properties of Date, DateTime and Duration (see
http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=interface-announce&msgNo=1246
) the custom properties page of the dialog File/Properties has been
changed.
Date and DateTime are edited using the controls for date and time.
Duration is displayed in a read only edit field and needs an
additional dialog to be edited. This dialog is opened with an
additional PushButton next to the edit field.

Chart was enhanced and now supports drawing objects. The drawing
toolbar allows to insert simple shapes such as lines, rectangles and
text objects. Furthermore even complex shapes such as cubes, symbols,
block arrows, flowcharts and stars can be inserted. The drawing
objects can be edited by several dialogs which can be opened via
context menu. Also the font and formatting of text objects can be changed.

With the integration of CWS controltextrendering, the way how controls
render their text has changed. Well, this applies to some controls, in
some documents, at least.

In general, the OOo applications format their text on the screen using
a so-called reference device, which might either be the printer
selected for the document, or a virtual device (which one is
controlled by a per-document option).

Form controls previously never participated in this game, they always
formatted their text according to the screen they were displayed on.
As a consequence, form controls which were embedded in the text flow
of the containing document broke the document layout when viewed on
different devices (print preview, printer, PDF export), or even only
when viewed in different zoom levels on the screen.

Now, non-input form controls (radio buttons, fixed texts, check boxes,
group boxes, command buttons) use the document's reference device for
rendering their own text, thus providing a better integration into the
surrounding document text.

This behavior can be enabled on a per-application level, more precise,
on a per-module level. There's no UI for changing the behavior.
Instead, the existing configuration structure below the
/org.openoffice.Office.Common/Forms/ControlLayout has been extended,
so that now for instance the node
.../ControlLayout/com.sun.star.sheet.SpreadsheetDocument/UseDocumentTextMetrics
controls whether the reference device text rendering for controls is
enabled in spreadsheet documents.

By default, the usage of the document's reference device is enabled
for text documents, drawings, and presentations, and disabled for all
other document types (spreadsheets, database forms, database reports).

From m60 onwards an additional document language option of "default"
is available which is resolved at runtime from the session's locale
settings to the best fit document language for the current session.

This extends the older behaviour of detecting the best fit document
language only at first-start and disregarding the locale settings at
subsequent starts.

The new setting of "default" is the new default setting. Manual
selection of a new default document language remains unchanged and
overrides the auto-detect feature.

It is now possible to add comments to a presentation or drawing
document (using menu insert/comment or with the new Comments toolbar).

Comments are shown as little handles on the slide including the
initials of the document author and a running number. Upon activation
a little sticky notes like window opens and displays the text of the
comment including the comments author and last edit time.

It is also possible to reply to comments created by other authors or
to delete all comments from a document at once before publishing the
document.

Please Note: This feature was previously called "Notes" in writer and
calc application. It has been renamed to "Comments" in all
applications to avoid a clash with the speaker notes feature in
impress. This is also a consistent naming with other office suites.

OOo is able to access resources (web sites, ftp sites, ...) which
require authentication. For this, users have to provide
username/password combination. This feature makes it possible
(currently under some very certain circumstances) to use the system
credentials of the currently active OOo user to authenticate for
resource access.

The document integrity check proves now whether the ODF document
conforms the ODF specification. It mainly affects the ODF1.2 documents.

If an inconsistency is found, the document is treated as a broken one,
the office suggests to repair the document in this case. The macros
are disabled in repaired documents.

OOo expects that an encrypted document does not contain any
non-encrypted streams starting from ODF1.2 version. The exceptions are
the streams that are part of the ODF format: "mimetype",
"META-INF/manifest.xml" and signature streams that follow the pattern
"META-INF/*signatures*".

In case OOo detects that there is an unexpected non-encrypted stream,
it shows the warning and let the macros in the document be deactivated.

The document-related events "Close document" and "Document is closing"
(to be found in Tools/Customize/Events) have been renamed to "Document
is closing" and "Document closed".

The reason is that the event formerly known as "Close document" is
actually fired when the document is about to be closed, and the event
formerly known as "Document is closing" is fired when the document has
been closed. In other words, the "Document closed" event arrived
before the "Document is closing" event, which is certainly
counter-intuitive.
