panic:segmentation violation when starting octave 3.0.0

Hi
my computer runs Windows XP with Service Pack 2

after installing "octave-3.0.0-setup.exe"
and starting octave
a window appears
"GNU Octave, version 3.0.0
...
...
- MSYS shell availabe <C:Programme\Octave\msys>.
panic: Segmentation violation -- stopping myself..."

and stops working.

See also the attached Image of this window
best regards  Michael

Which graphics backend did you choose at installation?
Do you have Java installed? Which version?

If you selected JHandles as default backend, could you
re-install and select Gnuplot instead?

Michael.

I experience the same problem when I select the JHhandles
as the main graphical mode (I need GUIs)
My java version is 1.4.2_03.
Can you figure something out of that?

I never tried JHandles with Java 1.4.2. You should at least use
Java >= 1.5 (normally, this should have been detected at installation
time).

Michael.
