Hi,

Forum story is ending (or begins !)
Now it has its own mailing-list, which takes 30s to suscribe.

How to do ?
- Once you've suscribe to forum, go on "Email subscription" menu on top
- Check the boxes corresponding to categories you want to suscribe (select all). You can unsuscribe whenever you want.
- Save settings

Then you can handle all forum posts with your emails !
Create topics, respond to posts, and receive posts.

There still RSS, for those who want to syndicate.

Note : to make cleaner posts or forum, that's better to clean previous existing text when responding to emails. (not to integrate the text of all the guys who responded before)

Note 2 : If you're okay, it would be better to almots stop using the current "petals-user" mailing list, and use the one integrated in forum, instead.

What do you think of it ? Is it convenient to you ? Please ask any question or remark :)

Regards

Mathieu

I think the forum and the current mailings list do not have the same
purpose.

The mailing-list is more for instantanous problems and any 'small
talks', where as the forum must be more consistent toward the subjects
it proposes, contains tips, relevant information and major issues
resolutions.

Otherwise the forum would be quickly a big mess and no one would find
the information that he wants.

I think they should stay separate, as it seems to be the easier way to
maintain the forum coherence.

Totally agree, the forum must be something like a knowledge base where we can post tutorials etc etc... The community will asks questions on these tutorials on the forum and the mailing list is for problem solving !

Well, I think it's not so simple. I agree with you about a forum versus
mailing list, however I understand that some people prefers a web forum
than a mailing list (and since I *hate* webforum, it's nice when both are
synchronized).

Especially to ask a single question, subscribing a mailing list may be
annoying..

Hi !

After some private discussions, we're going to one solution : anarchy**

Both tools are there, just use them as you want. We'll see how it goes afterward, and adapt.
That's no competition, that's more "Wait and see how it goes", or "Let them do the job"

Forum is online, there will be a link on the main website this week to promote it.
To help discussion, and because Adrien wanted to start a discussion that he hesitated to put on mailing-list, I've suscribed current forum members on integrated mail-list. It takes 10s to unsuscribe, please do so if you do not wish to receive by email.

** Galactic guide to safe anarchy :
- Discussion will remain visible to external eyes for a long time, on forum. Sometimes that's great, sometimes that's not.
- there might be more "stupid" questions on a forum, because it's easy to post
- forum is structured, mail-list is immediate
- mailing-list is typical among open source developers and advanced users
- mail-list is hosted @ow2, forum @ebmwebsourcing (for now)

Subject is still open, if you wish !

Best Regards

Mathieu
