i know there was an openssl update yesterday - now pine-4.64-1004,
pine-ssl-4.64-1003 will not build.  they fail at 'phase compiling'.  the
latest openssl is openssl-0.9.8l-1.

is this correlation meaningful?  i tried 'fink selfupdate' and also
alternating between pine/pine-ssl, but no luck.

Hello, Bryan. I've been able to build pine-4.64-1004 on my 10.5/i386
box. However, pine-ssl-4.64-1003 failed to build because of a problem
with OpenLDAP libraries. What's exactly the build errors you are
getting, and what is your configuration (Mac OS version, architecture,
Xcode version, Fink version, are you using the unstable tree)?

Also, are you aware that Pine is not being developed any longer and
has been replaced by alpine and re-alpine?

Cheers,

Hello again, Bryan. We've decided to mark our pine packages obsolete.
After running selfupdate and update-all, Fink installations with pine
should be updated to re-alpine instead (re-alpine is the latest
amongst pine, alpine, re-alpine).

i did a whole pile of update/index/selfupdate business, and i still see
pine - no *alpine.  i suppose it'll take a day or two?

thanks!

As a matter of fact, Alpine is not being developed any longer. Pine
stopped being developed in November 2006 and Alpine stopped being
developed in August 2008, so re-alpine is the most recent version.

That's because our changes to the pine* packages were committed to the
unstable tree only and (re-)alpine is not available in the stable tree
yet. I've just contacted (re-)alpine's maintainer, who's travelling at
the moment, and he's agreed with the move to stable. Provided all
dependencies are also available in the stable tree I should commit re-
alpine later today. If you can't wait you may enable the unstable tree
instead.

By the way, we've decided to deprecate alpine, too.

pine and pine-ssl are now marked as obsolete in the stable tree, and
re-alpine is available in the stable tree, too. It should take an hour
at the latest for these updates to reach the rsync mirrors.
