platinum worm pick wire in stockThanks to everyone that wrote suggesting that Tritech carry platinum
wire for worm picks, expressing an interest in getting it from us, as well as those who had technical tips as to which wire is best! What we settled on is wire that is 90% platinum + 10% iridium. This alloy is even more corrosion resistant and durable than pure platinum, while being slightly more malleable to form picks than a more common 90:20 alloy. We got wire that is .010" = .254mm = 30 gauge in diameter. This wire works really well for worm picks and for gel box electrodes as well. We cut it up into 3 foot (0.9 meter) lengths and the price is discounted to $100 PO or cash and is $110 for credit cards. If you order anything else at the same time, there will be no shipping charge for the Pt. Here is the item# and description. It's not on our website yet.... PT-9010-010-3FT 90% platinum 10% iridium wire 3 feet x 0.010 inches diameter Thanks so much for keeping us at Tritech Research as part of the C. elegans family. quick platinum wire questionThanks everyone who has ordered Pt wire from us for worm picks over the
past few months. Before carrying it, I sent around a survey to see what exact type people liked. Based on that, we have been carrying 90% platinum 10% iridium (because it is stiffer and more durable than 99.95% platinum, and some people were using 80:20 and some 99.95%). So, far, I have little feedback (other than that so many labs have ordered it!). One lab said they didn't like the 90:10 as well as the 99.95% they were used to because it is harder to to form the "spatula" and breaks sooner after repeated bending. We have to order another batch of wire, so please let me know if you are happy with what we are sending out, or if we should switch to 99.95%. Which kind does not affect the price (except if we have to order small quantities of multiple kinds). quick platinum wire questionI am trying to find Pt. wire (.020") for repair of electrophoresis modules. Do you (or do you know of a company that does) supply Pt. wire. I would probably be interested in relatively small quantities, such as 20" or so.
