plugin NOTES

I understand that this  plugin is up for adoption, requiring someone to
maintain etc.

I would like to take this over as I use it alot.

My current version allows you to search through your notes and Colour code
them.

Is this plug-in still up for offer

What do I need to do

Thanks

Daivid

I think so.

Search the mailing list archives for other improvement suggestions.  I
think there have been some rather detailed feature requests outlined
on this or the squirrelmail-users mailing list for this plugin.  As I
recall, there may have been more than one person that had already
implemented some improvements to the code.  It'd be nice if you could
track them down and try to integrate them into your version.  You can
also ask here and on the users mailing list for input, and maybe some
people will come out of the woodwork.

After that, please review the plugin development guidelines (not 100%
finished -- if you have questions, ask) before sending the new version
for approval via the guidelines therein.

You should also subscribe to at least this list.

Thanks!

I was involved in discussions with a plugin developer on improving this plugin a
while back. Tomorrow I'll see if I still have my notes on those discussions. The
biggest improvement that many users wanted is to get rid of the current inflexible
"sticky notes" layout and return to the more space-efficient layout of the previous
version which was more like a message listing.

I'm back. Sorry to say I left for a while to try out Horde. After intense
psychotherapy I'm pleased to say that I missed SquirrelMail so much I had
to go back.

There are two plugins that I expressed intent to take over a while ago. I
plan on doing some coding this week to release new versions asap. Please
see my notes below and let me know your thoughts, dreams and hopes for
their progress.

Bookmarks: Current Version 2.0.3
http://www.squirrelmail.org/plugin_view.php?id=93

We'd be interested to hear what attracted you from SquirrelMail to
Horde in the first place.

Good to hear from you again. I wondered what had happened to you.

Please be sure to work from the true latest Bookmarks plugin. The one on the SM site
is not the latest. I had worked with the original author on developing the plugin.
Later, after the author bowed out, Fredrik Jervfors made some modifications for me
such as to add a Delete All Bookmarks function (to use as a precursor to doing a
fresh import). I suggested that this latest version should get added to the SM
downloads page, but that never happened.

I can send you this latest version if you like.

I also have somee development versions that another person worked on with me a
couple of years ago. They were fairly ambitious, creating live clickable and
expandable bookmarks and folders in the folders pane, via javascript.

The plugin should have fallback code/functionality in case JavaScript
is not available.

Naturally. As that version of the plugin was never completed, it's moot at this point.

I'm glad to hear that you want to develop Notes and Bookmarks. Most likely
Alan sent you the code I wrote by now (I not sure I still have it anyway).
Use it or discard it as you please. Currently I don't have time to help
out myself.

Sincerely,
Fredrik

I'm ready to start work on these. Can you send me the latest code you have
for Bookmarks?

I appear and disappear at random. My day job can be demanding, as you all
can understand I'm sure :-)

Thanks!

Randy

Here are the modified Bookmarks files. Use them to replace the same named files in
the official release. That will result in the latest version, with functionality as
I described.

As for Notes, instead of a deprecated fixed TABLE layout, please consider moving to
modern accessible coding using CSS and more flexible elements such as DIVs with
CLASS or ID values. That will allow for better rendering and customization of Notes'
layout.

I've made some minor cosmetic changes to my version of bookmarks.  If you'd like me to email them to you, or want a co-developer on this job, let me know.

Also, another upgrade that I think would benefit this plugin is the ability to move folders/subfolders to other folders.  And perhaps changing the database structure from listing subfolders like this: "folder|subfolder" to a child id#/parent id# setup.  Though I don't know how hard it would be to maintain backwards compatibility if this were done.
