poll: current Turbine useJust wondering how many of us out there are using Turbine in their day to day lives and haven't said a peep on this list for some time. The "sites powered by Turbine" page is probably sorely out of date, among other things. Re: poll: current Turbine useI use Turbine for an ongoing project. I originally chose it for its
feature set and flexibility as compared to the other frameworks available at the time. RE: poll: current Turbine useHi,
Tibet Server is based on Turbine (since 2002 && Turbine 2.1) and is currently used on about 100 sites, hosted on load-balanced servers, and continuously developed by 10 java and web developers. Turbine is the prerequisite for Tibet Server AB to offer cost-efficient and customizable content, community, and commerce solutions for diverse industries such as retail business, international airlines, publishing, chemical industry, and charter travel. A great thank you to all Turbine developers. Re: poll: current Turbine use Here.
http://forio.com/broadcast Been up and running about 6 years. Though to be honest we're migrating our Turbine/Torque/Velocity application to a Spring/Hibernate/Velocity architecture in a release due later this year. RE: poll: current Turbine useI have been using Turbine 2.3.1 for 4 years at my current company (previous versions since 2001). It has been a very flexible, expandable technology. Frankly 2.3.1 has been very solid, to the extent that I haven't yet upgraded to a newer version... though I am sure that I will get to this eventually. I have wondered at times about the cool things that others have done or are trying to do with Turbine. The obvious thing that seems to attract developers to tools is new and useful features, or even useful approaches. It sometimes seems as if people only submit to this site when they have some immediate problem to solve. It would be great to hear about other's techniques, and solutions or just something that they came across that is cool. Answers to individual questions are great, but collaborative discussions, debates, etc, are what keep larger groups of people interested and help technologies like Turbine thrive and grow. From personal experience, I would guess that knowing that something can be done with Turbine, or that there is an accessible approach/solution would provide enough motivation for new developers to take the time to learn and become proficient with Turbine. One thing that I created for use with Turbine is a very basic approach for re-skinning the same VM in multiple languages. I also find it useful for customizing/re-purposing the same page without having to re-code the logic. We support multiple affiliates who want their own flavors of our products, etc. I am quite certain that better minds than mine would look at my approach for the above and say "I can do it even better than that", or "there is already a better solution", etc. This is the whole point. Would you care to comment why that migration is necessary? It could be useful for further Turbine development. I'm currently trying to reorganize parts of the internal structure of Turbine 4. This should allow people to use a generalized approach to modules and an easier way to create your own module types. I try to report my progress on the developer list. You are cordially invited to discuss and to contribute. > One thing that I created for use with Turbine is a very basic approach > for re-skinning the same VM in multiple languages. I will be happy to look into it. We will for sure appreciate your contributions. Re: poll: current Turbine useWe are using Turbine still for our internal applications. We have a large
old 2.2 turbine application and a handfull of new ones. We are also starting to branch out and use grails and rails/jruby more though... RE: poll: current Turbine useThanks for the feedback. You guys have done a great job. If I can give something back that might have a least a little value to others I will be happy to submit it. If anyone is curious to see the following in action, it is used with the Checkup site in the Powered by Turbine List.
