port ecos to blackfinHi,
I have less experience with ecos but I (or maybe a member of my group) will port eCos for the blackfin dsp from Analog Devices. Could you tell me how much time we will need (with good basic knowledge in computer science) to port it basicly? With "good basic knowlege" I'd like to say that I know whats a pipeline or memory mapped register, memory map and so on. I also have experience in progamming assembler and c at machine-level. Maybe it's easier to estimate the number of codelines to write. Thank you Martin L. -- Before posting, please read the FAQ: http://ecos.sourceware.org/fom/ecos and search the list archive: http://ecos.sourceware.org/ml/ecos-discuss |

It's hard to give a time estimate for such work because this really depends so much on the experience and calibre of the people doing the work. That said, porting eCos to a new machine architecture is non-trivial and can take someone with experience with eCos anywhere from 4-12 weeks (I've done a number of these and those are representative costs). Note: I'm not trying to make this sound like a huge task, rather that there are lots of details to consider and get correct and it simply takes time, often more than one might wish. -- ------------------------------------------------------------ Gary Thomas | Consulting for the MLB Associates | Embedded world ------------------------------------------------------------ -- Before posting, please read the FAQ: http://ecos.sourceware.org/fom/ecos and search the list archive: http://ecos.sourceware.org/ml/ecos-discuss |

Re: port ecos to blackfinI'm also interested in a possible Blackfin port of eCos. A quick search
shows that people have asked about it, but I am wondering if anybody has put any work into it? I'm currently running uClinux on the Blackfin, but eCos would be a much better match for my application. Unfortunately, I don't currently have the time to tackle porting eCos on my own, but I could assist somebody that has started the project. I'm responsible for the electronic data processing. At first we wanted to use the Blackfin for all data processing. But now we decidet to use LPC21xx (ARM) for atitude stabilisation. Later we'll use the Blackfin as a 2nd processor for radio- and imageprocessing. Because we can afford only one processorboard at the moment I regret not starting porting eCos to blackfin now. But if you wait halve a year I'll try it. Until then I'm going to get some experience with eCos on the ARM. Re: port ecos to blackfinI suspect that will be around the time that I will have time available to
tackle the project. So, perhaps we will be able to help each other. --On Saturday, November 26, 2005 3:56 PM +0100 Martin Laabs <martin.laabs@...> wrote: > Hello, > > On Thu, Nov 24, 2005 at 10:41:16PM -0800, Bob Amstadt wrote: > >> I'm also interested in a possible Blackfin port of eCos.
