powerpoint 2007 and pstopdf - text rendering issues

Hi,

I'm using the Powerpoint print-to-file feature to save a slideshow as a postscript file. Then I use ps2pdf to convert it to pdf. However, the resulting pdf seems to have invalid character information. The text looks ok, but if I copy text from the pdf, and paste it somewhere else, the characters are completely invalid. The powerpoint file uses standard Windows fonts (Calibri, etc..).

My guess is that it's a font embedding issue with the postscript. I've tried many different command line switches for ps2pdf as suggested by Google searches, but so far nothing seems to fix the problems.

Anyone have an idea of what the problem is?

The PS file is here: http://hoisie.com/gs/smoking.ps
The pdf output is here: http://hoisie.com/gs/smoking.pdf
The original pptx is here: http://hoisie.com/gs/smoking.pptx

Thanks!
Mike

You are using Ghostscript v. 7.05. This version is 7 years old !
Please upgrade to the latest version, 8.70, and everything will
work just fine.
