problem connecting GRE

Hi,

I just configure poptop and I get some error messages when I try to connect:

The entry I've cut and pasted below is already in the FAQ so perhaps it
should be edited or deleted in light of your new entry:

Q. GRE: read(fd=5,buffer=804d720,len=8196) from PTY failed: status = -1
error = Input/output error

A. The log will display something like this:

Jun 22 21:48:35 linuxbox pptpd[1900]: GRE:
read(fd=5,buffer=804d720,len=8196) from PTY failed: status = -1 error =
Input/output error
Jun 22 21:48:35 linuxbox pptpd[1900]: CTRL: PTY read or GRE write failed
(pty,gre)=(5,6)

pppd failed for some reason. pptpd failed to report why pppd failed.
This is a bug, but it is not yet fixed.
You should look at why pppd failed, which is most likely your fault, not
a bug. pppd fails when it does not understand the options you entered.
Running pppd manually against your options.pptpd file would find the bad
options.

As you said linux and xp worked, I'd say that there is something
missing on vista or win7 clients

As you stated their firewall is off, did you checked if the above
configs are ok on vista and win7 clients? M$ tend to modify them
from version to version of ther "o.s."

Again, use tcpdump or wireshark to discover where the ICMP destination
unreachable protocol unreachable message is coming from.

Yes, it should, but it is EIO "Input/output error" and not EPROTO
"Protocol not available".  EPROTO is what the original poster
experienced.
