Maybe there was a problem while the installation. Remove $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/gridsphere $HOME/.gridsphere and try the installation again. I looked in GridSphereFilter and on line 121 GridSphere is trying to end a database transaction after an error. I think there is a problem with the database connection.
