problem with 16:9 menus on stand-alone player

I normally use dvdstyler to create DVDs. Dvdstyler generates the menus
and the dvdauthor xml.

Recently use dvdstyler 1.7 to create a DVD with 16:9 menus. The playback
work as expected on my PC player (xine). However, on my stand-alone DVD
player, the menu background uses the 16:9 aspect ratio while the button
graphics run at 4:3. Thus the button/highlight/select graphics do not
line up with thumbnail images on the background.

Is this a stand-alone player limitation or what?

Are there some spumux or dvdauthor xml options to force 16:6 on the buttons?

Thanks

philip

I think this is a known "feature" of the DVD spec. In 16:9 mode, the
subpictures are still being displayed within a 4:3 rectangle, the same
width as the video. So it's up to you to restrict your subpictures to
the right height to correctly overlay the 16:9 video.

Turns out there's a reason why it's designed this way, it's to allow
supporting letterbox and auto-pan-scan modes on 4:3 displays
