remote editing with handheldhi
I was looking at this demo, and was wondering how effective it is. http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcpad/demos.html Does any one have experience of editing maps with hand held devices? Are there any open source projects for this? What about accuracy and usability? -- regards Kenneth Gonsalves Senior Project Officer NRC-FOSS http://nrcfosshelpline.in/web/ _______________________________________________ talk mailing list talk@... http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk |

I've never used it out in the field, but I do take it with me whenever I travel, then I can dump data from the GPS and do some OSM work when I'm in the hotel, or cafe or wherever. The screen is a limiting factor (1024x600 resolution) but JOSM is usable. I think it could be used 'out and about', but it would be awkward. A tablet would be easier to carry and use. To be honest though I prefer carrying the GPS ($150) and a (paper) notebook ($1) and pen ($1). Of course, you could get one of these: http://www.ikegps.com/prodLine1000.aspx Best wishes, Andrew _______________________________________________ talk mailing list talk@... http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk |

I have a Nokia n810 and have used OSM2Go, though the internal GPS isn't very good (no external antenna). _______________________________________________ talk mailing list talk@... http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk |

Re: remote editing with handheldI have used N800 with an bluetooth external GPS. It's good for quickly adding roads and POIs, but for anything bigger than this it get's too complicated and sluggish.

> http://www.ikegps.com/prodLine1000.aspx Why bother: it doesn't even have a microphone to record notes. Stefan ;-) _______________________________________________ talk mailing list talk@... http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk |
