report-writing: two start-persons

Hello all,

I'm trying to play with an idea I had which is a report of lines of
descendancy or ancestry between an ancestor and a descendant. Initially
I thought of a DAR-like report but for starters something like this:

1. John Doe m. Mary Lou
2. Jane Doe m. Jack Jones
3. James Jones m. Susan Smith
4. Jim Jones

So that's a line of descendancy between John Doe and Jim Jones. So I'm
thinking I take two people as arguments. Except I'm not sure that's
possible. Is it easy and I'm not seeing it? All reports seem to take
a single person as start-person.

Thanks --lcc

This specific idea sounds like the Deep Connections Gramplet [1] which
uses the Home person and the Active person. I don't think that there
are any reports that would have you select two people, but you should
be easily able to have two options to select two people (and home and
active might make nice defaults). See also the feature request on
"spidering" [2] for selecting these people as a filter.

Thank you Doug that really helps. I'm not sure how the selection interface
would be since I haven't seen anything like that (file-dialog-like). The only
simple way I can think of is "enter two GRAMPS IDs". Perhaps that's it.

No, it is even easier. There is a PersonOption that allows you to
select a person from the database (starts showing active person, I
think, but allows you to check all to widen the selection). There
might be some issue having two PersonOptions, but give it a try.

I like this idea. It relates to something that I think would be useful in the NAVWEB reports, that it is possible to start with a couple / family group and not just an individual when producing the report. Maybe other reports as well, but I'd have to look at them to find which we would find this useful in.

Ken,

To clarify things, confusion arose because I was trying to follow the old
report-writing tutorial which is completely outdated. Nowadays all reports
use PersonOption. The PersonOption class is somewhat limited in that you can't
assign it a specific person as default or have it show all people as default.
It's been a while since I finished the report I had in mind, you can find it at:
