ship .odb with linked .xls ??Hi *,
I have an pathA\test.odb, that links to an pathA\test.xls. When I open the content.xml of the .odb, it shows xlink: href=" ../test.xls" So I would expect, that if I place both .odb and .xls in folder pathB\ ... that the .odb can be registered and used. However, I get the message "The file file:///../test.xls cannot be loaded". Can anyone tell what I oversee here?? Thanks, Cor -- Cor Nouws - nl.OpenOffice.org marketing contact Ontwikkelaar? What you you mean with "the odb links to the .xls"? Is there a link to the .xls in a form/report? Ah, does this mean that an odb with the relative link, can only be loaded in 3.1 (IYRC) and work .. I just installed 3.1.0 on the machine where I tested the .odb in the 3.0.0. And indeed, now it does work :-) I can place the odb and xls together in any location and it is OK. I see that issue http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=96134 also affects csv files. Is it correct that the relative path from an odb from DEV300m55 does not work in 3.1.0 ? The problem happens when the file is created (or the Calc file changed via the property editor) under 3.1.0, not when it is opened. So - In DEV300_m55 (3.2) the Base file is created with the proper path setting. Opening this file in 3.1.0 is not a problem. In the mean time Frank provided a build to test creating an .odb from a .csv, since doing that in DEV300m55 showed unwanted characters at certain fields. So I installed that OOo_dba32e_090821 on Win XP to test. Creating an .odb from the cvs results in data that shows up fine. No strange characters at the end of some fields (as I saw in DEV300m55), thus it is the bug Frank expected and fixed in that build! However, I did some more test, wich exchanging .odb's between different versions. I made sure there were no quickstarters running when doing this. (This all with .csv files - I see no errors when using an xls as file for the datasource.) A) When I open the .dba that I make in this OOo_dba32e_090821 in DEV300m55, I get the error "The connection to the data source <name> could not be established. The connection to the external data source could not be established. No SDBC driver was found for the give URL." B) Opening the same .dba in 3.1.1 RC2 works fine. C) The other way round: creating an .odb with DEV300m55 and trying to open in OOo_dba32e_090821, results in the same error as A. Any ideas? Cannot reproduce, neither A) nor C). Is the database type properly show in the status bar ("Spreadhseet")? Did you use the Linux or Windows version? Do other spreadsheet-.odbs work in the respective version(s)? Sure you really ran m55/dba32e, and weren't confused by some quickstarter or such grabbing your document for another version? I was not sure at one moment, so tried again. (And checked again now.) Thus the answer is no. Can connections still live if the quickstarter is closed, but the application is still hanging around in the OS'memory? In general, the quick starter just keeps the process alive, even when you closed the last document. As long as the process is alive ('cause either a doc or the QS is open, or just 'cause OOo did not terminate properly for whatever reasons), connections can be alive, too. Yes, before closing the quickstarters, I close the docs too. But I know, an office that has been used, starts faster, also without active quickstarter. But anyway: after a full power off-restart, and no DEV300m55 touched, I opened OOo_dba32e_090821 with an .ods, created in DEV300m55, and still the error :-\ -- Cor Nouws - nl.OpenOffice.org marketing contact - Community Contributor Representative in the Community Council Gevoel niet vrij te zijn? Re: ship .odb with linked .xls ??Hi *,
for the record here's what Cor and /me found meanwhile: > A) When I open the .dba that I make in this OOo_dba32e_090821 in > DEV300m55, I get the error > "The connection to the data source <name> could not be established. > The connection to the external data source could not be established. > No SDBC driver was found for the give URL." > > B) Opening the same .dba in 3.1.1 RC2 works fine. > > C) The other way round: creating an .odb with DEV300m55 and trying to > open in OOo_dba32e_090821, results in the same error as A. > > Any ideas? m52 introduced a bug that newly created text/csv database documents could not be read by m51 and earlier (in particular the 3.1.x versions), and vice versa. In dba32e, this bug was fixed (which I didn't know, thus my confusion), which made text/csv .odb's incompatible between dba32e and versions >=m52, but compatible to versions <=m51. Once dba32e is integrated (m57?), we'll have a number of milestones (m52-m56) which you better do not create text/csv database documents with.
