Hello all,

Speaking of the sidebar, the one feature I miss is a shortcut to set the
focus on the sidebar and to switch between the sidebar's tabs. Since
more and more plugins operate on or in the sidebar, this is a critical
feature for mouse-less usability of gedit.

The problem is which shortcut to use. Since asking for suggestions is
unlikely to yield many answers, I think I'll start the polemic by
stating that CTRL-Tab seems like a perfect choice ;-)

Seriously: What about CTRL-ALT-Numbers?

Since the only tabs within gedit are the document tabs (that can be
switched by pressing ALT+Number) and the side and bottom bars' tabs,
this seems like a sensible choice. We could start assigning numbers for
the side bar's tabs, and continue on the bottom bar.

Cheers,
Fred

Any future plans or anybody know of anyone implementing the ability to move the sidebar to the right side of gedit?  It would be excellent to have a sidebar on both sides so you can have file browser on one and a class browser on the other :)

Agree now when more and more people have widescreen lcd we should have
an option to add a panel to the right side too. Problem is this will
probadly break API :-/

Because now its called gedit_window_get_side_panel this should be marked
deprecated and changed to gedit_window_get_[left_panel/right_panel]
imho :-) I am not sure main maintainers like that.

I would gladly send a patch upstream for this if maintainers are
intrested :-) and not working on it already :-)

Sounds great!

Because now its called gedit_window_get_side_panel this should be marked

imho :-) I am not sure main maintainers like that.

That's evolution and the way it goes on other projects too.

Hi there,

multiple panels would be nice! But I would appreciate if gedit became
more flexible and modern. I mean, a method get_left_panel() is nonsense
in times where we have drag'n drop panels available. Please use them and
think about methods like
register_panel_view(view : GtkWidget) : ViewId
and
unregister_panel_view(id : ViewId)

Otherwise it's not really evolutionary ;-)

Regards,
Michael

Hi everybody,

I just wrote a right pane plugin: https://sourceforge.net/projects/gedit-rightpane/

;-)
