Was the Aga off before it was serviced? The reason that oil fumes can be given off by an Aga is if it is an "Oil soaker".

Basically the oil Aga is gravity fed and if the oil isn't turned off when the Aga is not alight the oil will continue to flow and spread into the packing, when the burner heats up it warms the oil in the packing giving off the smell. If the soak is only slight it will just evaporate off. If it is more serious there are a number of options:

1/ remove the packing and light the Aga and burn off the oil.
2/ If it is more serious, dismantle the Aga put it through a kiln and then rebuild (if you have a concrete plinth you may need to have that replaced as well. I guess the question is how bad is the smell?

Where in the country are you. Give me a call if you want to have a chat about it my mobile is 07786 586555.

Good luck

Paul

I'm new to this, not sure if I should have started a new thread but it's on the same subject............

I had my Aga turned off over the summer. I switched it off at the tank. Then the service man came a month ago, serviced it, switched it back on briefly before declaring the thermostat wasn't working - he blamed it on me forgetting to switch off the power when I turned off the oil.  So he turned it off again and came back a week later and fitted new stat and switched it back on.  From the start there was a smell of fumes, which seemed to be coming either from the chimney vent or from the edges of the boiling plate.

I called them back after a week of this, as the thermostat needed adjusting anyway.  They adjusted the stat, but amazingly said they couldn't smell oil in the kitchen (I'd left the door shut all day to make sure it stank in there!).  They did a draught test which showed the chimney was drawing very well and said the flame was fine, and they couldn't do any more.  That was 3 weeks ago and it is still smelling.  I have checked with visitors to make sure it is not me being paranoid.  Can anyone help?
