soil property in ABAQUS?

Hi,
I am trying to simulate soil material (stiff clay & dense sand) in ABAQUS. I
searched online and got some parameters, such as density, young's modulus,
and poisson's ratio. I know attenuation is a major property for soil
material. However I was not sure whether I should use Rayleigh damping or
viscoelastic property. Anyone has experiences of simulating soil material in
ABAQUS? I would really appreciate if you could tell me where to obtain or
how to calculate those attenuation parameters. Thanks a lot!

Jerry

Hi Jerry
As I have experienced, its better to use elastic+clay plasticity for stiff clay and use elasic+drucker prager for dense sand.

Sorry, I can't understand what do you mean by attenuation parameters.
You have to choose first which constitutive model you want to use. Abaqus has Mohr-Coulumb and Drucker Brager. Usually I prefere to use Mohr-Coulumb.

Hope that help you

I am working on a wave propagation problem, concerned with the wave
attenuation due to the soil. That's why I am looking for some parameters of
soil which can correctly calculate the wave attenuation. I've received a few
responses, suggesting to use Mohr-Coulumb, Drucker Brager, or clay
plasticity model. I would try all of them to see which one works best for my
case. Thanks a lot!

Could you tell me where I could find those soil parameters which I need for
both elastic+clay plasticity and elastic+drucker prager models? I don't have
instruments for soil test right now, thus I hope I could obtain some
reference parameters online. Thanks a lot!
