hi *!
after spending waaay more time than intended grokking the basics of git,
i've finally got three machines upgraded to jack2.
between my studio machine (athlon64 4000+ single core) and my
field-recording laptop (pentium m 1.6 ghz), i've been successfully
running 48 ch of audio in both directions at 64 frames per period.
network latency was "-L1", i.e. one period.
the network connection was a very lightly loaded 1000baseT network with
one really crappy dlink switch between the machines.
connecting the 48 netjack lines in a row, i get a single line passing
back and forth through the network 48 times. jdelay reports 3072 frames
latency for that line, which (magic!) happens to be 48*64 :-D
saw one xrun after 10 minutes of operation, but that was on the laptop,
which was using the dynamic cpu governor and has cron and other stuff
running in the background atm.
after pinning the cpu clocks on both ends, i've now had another 30mins
of glitch-free operation (neither netxrun reports - which torben has
improved to work on both ends now iiuc - nor audible hiccups).
i guess that indicates that while some tuning may be necessary, netone
works well with jack2.
things i can't test:
* concurrency issues (got only single-core machines)
* mac os interoperability
i'll play around some more, especially with some actual processing on
the remote end, and keep you posted.
ps: i'd really appreciate to have netone in mainline jack2 asap. that
git experience wasn't too pleasant, and imho the barrier for testers is
too high atm..
best,
jörn
