Change Passwd Plugin Broken in version 4.0

Hi ,

I used change passwd plugin to change system passwd in /etc/shadow file. This version seems to be broken. I have raised a Bug Report No. 2904319 against it.

This bug occurs ...

...because of the badly maintained blacklist of the spamfilter. important mails from "clean" senders don't reach my inbox any longer.

very harmful effect...

please let me edit the blacklist myself so i can finetune what is comming through and what is not...

is there a plugin or tool to supervise the sensitivity of the spamfilter beyond the parameters a user can set/change in the webmail-administration panel - especially the blacklist-feature.

how can i make important mail reach me again?

browse the gui of my webmail administration panel.

each page i access the line "bug [program flaw] is displayed...

The description of the bug:

changes to my settings aren't stored properly.

i activated the spammail-filters, but a lot of important mail from "clean" senders isn't delivered any longer to my inbox, ALTHOUGH i deactivated the spamfilters afterwards..

i changed the way folders are shown in the lefthand foldertree-view an renamed certain default foldernames. thereafter these bug-messages kept appearing...

...not quite sure if that caused the alarm... but close enough to the incident to be worth while considering anyway...

If you install PHP with MSI installer, PHP is listed in "Add/Remove Programs" control panel and it has "Change" button.

If you don't want to mess with your PHP setup, there is a shorter way. Replace SquirrelMail src/redirect.php script with attached redirect.php file. This file replaces HTTP redirection with HTML meta refresh. Meta refresh works in IIS 5.0 + PHP CGI setups.

If you can't download that file, open src/redirect.php in WordPad, find line with

I've set refresh to 1 second. It is possible that even 0 second refresh will work.

Please note that correct solution is to fix IIS 5.0 and PHP CGI setup. Meta refresh is a hack and not a solution. Other SquirrelMail scripts might need correct session write timing too.

In your setup primary suspects for "you must be logged" are IIS 5.0+PHP CGI and not writable session directory. You already ruled out session directory issues with session test script. You should rule out IIS 5.0 before suspecting fubared PHP session configuration. If IIS 5.0+ PHP ISAPI setup or meta refresh does not fix your issue, then show your PHP configuration.

Tomas,
Can you point me in the direction of changing from CGI to ISAPI? I have
been searching and can't seem to find anything. And I looked thru my php
folder and figured there should be a file with isapi in the name someplace
and can't find anything there.

I have run the tests and they all seem fine. Do you want me to send the
results for the test you have below for the core, mbstring and session
settings?

You haven't said anything about changing PHP setup. IIS 5.0 has some quirks
in CGI mode. It delays session information saving and SquirrelMail
src/webmail.php does not get information that must be saved in
src/redirect.php.

Which page says that you should be logged?

Could you test your setup (http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/TestPHPSettings)
and show local core, mbstring and session settings for SquirrelMail?

"You must be logged" issue can be triggered by corrupted cookies or session
information. If you suspect that it is cookies, you should try installing
cookie_warning plugin (http://www.squirrelmail.org/plugin_view.php?id=235).

1. If you use hMailServer mod for SquirrelMail, stop doing that and use
original SquirrelMail package. Latest stable version. 1.4.5 is outdated and
might not work correctly with PHP 5.2.10.

2. If you setup PHP as CGI, try setting it as ISAPI.

3. Create test script (for example - test.php) with

Put it in SquirrelMail root directory, open it in browser
(http://your-server/squirrelmail/test.php) and check for session errors.
Script should return only "bool(true)". If it shows errors, fix them.

1.4.5 is extremely aged. The latest stable version is 1.4.19. I
strongly recommend you upgrade, as there have been security fixes you
are missing out on.

Confirm that your IMAP server is working first.

I have searched the archives, forums, help files, etc.. and can not find a solution for this. Everything I have found is not working. There is something wrong with the setup of your mail system. Check the LDA
configuration.

SquirrelMail *IS* an IMAP client.

Information about PHP error reporting settings is found therein.
Posting guidelines were sent to you when you subscribed and are linked
at the bottom of every email that goes out on this list.

SquirrelMail will tell you if it encounters an IMAP error. My only
guess is that the mailboxes in question are extremely large and your
web server is either too overloaded to serve them or PHP's memory is
insufficient. There are lots of tips in the list archives for tuning
SM for large mailboxes.

We are using Squirrel Mail with courier and qmail. Everything is
working well we have a fairly large setup, 800 users. On three or four
occasions now we have ran into a mailbox which causes squirrel mail
never to load. However we can pop or imap these boxes with
thuderbird/outlook etc. Our fix is usually to drag them from pop-inbox
to imap or vice versa and eventually this cleans up the corruption.

I am running squirrelmail 1.4.19.
What can I do to tune up apache/php errors to get more debugging?

Can i do anything to get SM to "try catch" some imap errors and do a
best effor display of the mailbox - bad messages?

Yes. This is not a SquirrelMail problem. Read your Cyrus imapd
documentation about how to configure postfix to deliver to Cyrus.

Cyrus does not store emails in user's home. It stores them in /var/spool/cyrus/

If all arriving emails are stored in user's home, you forgot to set cyrus as local delivery agent.

Sorry to bother you again.
I did something so maybe you have a better idea of whats wrong.
a created a new user "nico" just the way I detailed in the first mail ( i can login into squirrelmail just by doing the cyradm steps and the saslpasswd2... but if I dont add the user to the system I cant send mails.
after I created the user i logged in and send a mail to the same user ( nico@...) and right after that I run :

find / -amin 1 > 21.21

to see what had changed in the last minute
then I run
cat 2121 | grep nico

and this is the output:

/var/spool/imap/user/nico/Sent/1.
/var/spool/imap/user/nico/Sent/cyrus.index
/var/spool/imap/user/nico/Sent/cyrus.header
/var/spool/imap/user/nico/Sent/cyrus.cache

Actually before I set that mails were stored in /var/mail/xxxx

But now even if I delete that setting in main.cf nothing changes and the inbox is still empty.
A strange thing is that if i move mails from the Sent folder to the Inbox in squirrelmail they actually appear in inbox, but not the new emails.

You don't appear to have Cyrus delivery configured in your MTA. Cyrus
does not store mail in user home directories.

Look in the Cyrus docs for info about setting this up.

You don't appear to have Cyrus delivery configured in your MTA. Cyrus
does not store mail in user home directories.

Look in the Cyrus docs for info about setting this up.

Squirrelmail and cyrus. Inbox empty but mail succesfully delivered to ?home/userX/Maildir/new/

Hello, my name is Martin, I was wondering if maybe you could help me solve this problem.
I am doing a project for school, a mail server and I decided to use cyrus and squirrelmail.
for authentication i use sasl.
I dont really know much about servers but I think there is something wrong with my setup.
In order to create a new user i do:

su cyrus
cyradm localhost
>cm user.xxxx
>quit
exit
saslpasswd2 -c -u server1 xxxx
useradd -d /home/xxxx -m xxxx

and then I am able to login using squirrelmail.
The actual problem is that I can send emails and (supposely) receive them but they never show on the inbox, If I open the Sent folder they appear there but never in the inbox, but on the other hand the emails are actually delivered to /home/xxxx/Maildir/new/

Its like if squirrelmail doesnt know where to look for the inbox.

If you could help me, Id really appreciate it.

Then you haven't fully configured SquirrelMail. Please read and
follow the installation documentation.

Thanks for testing. I tried Chrome with your HTML and I do see the
problem. However, Chrome does NOT have this problem with my own
SquirrelMail installation, so the problem is something with your

Ok, I've done that, same problem. On the start page I didn't enter or
change any of the information.

Thanks for the screen shots, which help explain the problem better to
me. It certainly looks like a layout problem... I'd first suggest
blasting your user preferences away completely (save a copy first).
After you do that does the problem persist? Seeing the HTML for the
offending page might also help us diagnose the problem.
