staff height

Hi, is there a way to make the staff wider in height only (i.e. increase
the height without increasing width?) Altering the spacing kind of
helps, but it also alters the horizontal density of notes. The problem,
I guess, is that entering notes using the mouse is quite tricky with the
"normal" staff height -- the difference between a C and a D is just a
few pixels.

In any release version, no.

In the current development version, the best you could do would be to zoom in
on the staff using the panner.  There is currently no way to do that without
having a mouse wheel at your disposal, but you can zoom way in on the staff
without changing anything about the way the notes are laid out.

I'd say that would probably satisfy the spirit of what you're after here,
altough it is still some long while yet before this development version gets
released.  We're aiming for October, but October is rushing at us very fast.

I'm not sure I understand what that means -- I basically think most of
the vertical screen space is wasted (i.e. the staffs could be a lot taller).

I do understand the timing of the new version, although I have to say it
creates a bit of a "dead project" feeling. If it were after me, I would
have opted for two parallel branches in development (stable + QT
branch). But let's hope October +/- a month or two is a reasonable timeline.
