I am looking for a hospital bed which can be adapted for switch access for a
patient with ALS or one that is already available.  Any information or
resources would be appreciated.

You don't need a special bed, you just need one than can be adapted.

The product that Donn listed is one, and also, you can look into the
TASH bed controller:
http://www.ablenetinc.com/SupportDocuments/128.pdf (look at the bottom
of page 10).

It says that it works with the Sicare products, but I would ask if it
could be set up to work with one of their other learning IR remotes if
all you want is bed control?

Other ECU systems have bed control as an option, such as the Imperium
and Quartet, but you have to by their expensive boxes.  I am assuming
that you are trying to keep the costs as low as possible?

Judith,
We had SAJE build an X-10 based bed controller for our Sicare Standard
that ran ~$1,000.  If this became a popular item perhaps Scott would be
able to adjust the price.  It works very well and is designed to plug
into the bed pendant port on our Stryker Secure II beds.  However, if
the needs are more modest, such as raising and lowering the head of the
bed, then you may want to consider a single use adapter.  We developed
different models for our Hill-Rom beds (Centrum and 850 beds)with a
pass-through switch for head up/down on separate nurse call switches.
When we converted to the Stryker Secure II beds, we made another adapter
and then had it fabricated by an outside manufacturer and now purchase
them through ALCO.
