For new translations, we are only using the language code unless the
language is different in another country. So, would "ta" work instead
of "ta_LK"?
When sending in a translation, please only send the .po file. We
don't need any other files.
Also, if you will, please find the file "sec_remove_eng.png" in the
main squirrelmail/images directory and translate and submit a new
image, thanks!
And I see TWO squirrelmail.po files in your zip file:
squirrelmail-1.4.17/locale/ta_LK
squirrelmail-1.4.17/locale/ta_LK/LC_MESSAGES
There should only be one, of course, in the LC_MESSAGES directory.
Finally, please fill out the author information in the header at the
(very) top of the file. AFAIK, the Project-Id-Version and
POT-Creation-Date should not be changed from the SquirrelMail one.
You can refer to other translations such as the one in
locales/ug/LC_MESSAGES.

Also, I wanted to confirm that we'll be able to place a SquirrelMail
copyright on the translation (see the 2nd line in most translation
files). You are also encouraged to translate any of the plugins that
you would like. :-)
As well, perhaps the better translation to compare to (for at least
the headers at the top) is the Swedish one in locale/sv_SE.

Tamil is been used in Many countries including Sri Lanka (LK), India, Singapore, Malaysia... Though the written Tamil is same in all of these countries, there are differences in real usage.
We are also doing Joomla, Moodle, Mozilla localizations and in all we are using ta_LK. Therefore I think it is appropriate to use 'ta_LK' rather 'ta'.

You didn't attach any file for me to look at. It might be best if you
just copied the entire header of the Swedish po file and changed the
details to fit your translation.

Yes, we got it. It is always best to send translations in an archived
format (like you did the 2nd time) so that it is protected from damage
during transport.

I don't claim to be an expert on Tamil, or maybe my research is
flawed, but I'd like to keep our translations synchronized with the
rest of the world.
Thing is, we do not touch in areas that you have listed and those will be huge works.
Upto now what we were doing are (You can find the translations on the respective sites), Joomla!, Mozilla and Moodle and hoping to do Open Office soon.
Of course, as I said before too, in written Tamil, you cant find any different in Sri Lankan Tamil, Indian Tamil, and other Tamil.
Therefore if you really want you can define this as 'ta', No problem for us.

It's not that you should just change that date unless you changed it
to match the file that you based your translation upon. Can you tell
me where you got the original .pot file that you translated?
I do not know where the .pot file came from (Sorry for the irresponsible answer, but I do not have any other answers). I was given with a POT file sometime ago and I copied the POT-Creation-Date date from it.

be kind enough to offer some advice on why they chose "ta" without a

been done (the very point is that they use "ta" without a country
code), unless in fact the Sri Lanka version of Tamil would be
different than what they have.

Paul, You know Glossary plays an important role in Localization.
Though we have Tamil specking people in India (Tamil Nadu) and Sri Lanka, till 2000 both countries publishing their own glossaries. Then the scholars came into an agreement and they published a common IT glossary in 2000. But even in that glossary if you see, for a single word they have given two translations and they have specified as (த.வ) and (இ.வ). That means, Sri lankan usage and Indian (Tamil Nadu) usage. This differenenciation is there for lot of words in that combined IT glossary of Sri Lanka and India. We are basing on our localization mainly on this glossary.
Also I need to point out here that, this IT glossary was prepared by 12 indian (Tamil Nadu) scholars and 12 Sri Lankan scholars.

Still we are happy with 'ta' as locale. But we recommend 'ta_LK'.
The glossary I was mentioning is published through 'Official Language Commission' in Sri Lanka and I have a copy of that. Unfortunatly that is not yet in Online. I have attached scan copies of cover page and an inside page for your reference.

Search for "sec_remove" and you'll find it.
